The argument that we can’t exempt overseas care workers from retrospective settlement extensions because they might leave the sector is not just wrong. It’s cruel.

We should not be keeping care workers in the sector by trapping them in it, at the mercy of sponsors who know they have nowhere else to go. That creates the conditions for exploitation and a race to the bottom.

If we want care workers to stay, the answer is simple: treat them with dignity, improve working conditions, allow them to progress in their careers, move between employers and integrate into our communities.

And honour the five-year route to settlement they came here under.

We have an opportunity to do the right thing.

This is what @PeterObi has always been about: ethnic baiting, bigotry and division.

Anyone who watched him govern Anambra is not surprised by this video from one of his surrogates. He played this game then. He is playing it now. (Google ‘Governor Peter Obi Catholic versus Anglican in Anambra.’ There is a plethora of reliable reports on this).

He gave the 2023 election its ethnic hue when he read out a fake WhatsApp message painting Yoruba people as conspirators. The evidence is attached, for those who had to forget.

He gave it its religious hue in that leaked "Yes Daddy! Yes Daddy!" call, begging the church to turn the pulpit into a campaign office. He claimed he was going to sue those who leaked it. It’s been four years, nothing has happened.

Then he told Nigerians abroad to stop sending money home to their families. Again, there is a video, despite more attempts at cover up and lies.

Now his campaign has come for the Yoruba people directly, again. Millions of Yoruba people voted for Peter Obi. They queued under the sun for him. Their reward? To be lumped together and insulted as one people, in the desperate hunt for votes.

This is not a slip. It is a script. Design. Intentional. What you heard in this video from Peter is what they say in their meetings with Peter.

Tomorrow some people will ask, "How did we get here?" Today they will pretend this video does not exist.

Weaponizing basic family remittances and advising the diaspora to withhold food and medical support from their own relatives is a masterclass in humanitarian leadership.

Peter Obi went to the UK to urge UK-based Nigerians not to render financial assistance to their loved ones, so they can vote him in. This is someone who is marketed as a selfless leader; Imagine if the likes of Atiku, Sowore, Tinubu, or even any opposition member uttered such disappointing statement. Same Obi a few days ago came to complain about the hunger and in this country, and now, he doesn't care who gets affected as long as it benefits his political ambition.

This was the same thing he did in 2022/23 when Nigerians were suffering due to the naira redesign policy, he came to defend CBN's decision and backed the corrupt Emefiele because he thought it will affect the opposition.
