Tánaiste Simon Harris now “convinced” of need to acquire combat jet aircraft to “deter & detect” airborne threats at annual cost of €100m.
Airborne threats from who exactly?
No autism classes, decent healthcare, but neutral country needs fighter jets.

@RTE_PrimeTime@jerrybuttimer@SarahAMcInerney@rtenews Should deal with the 1000s of non full-license drivers in Ireland who are driving 10+ years in this country based on Gov reports. Before jumping straight to this
We don't really have a housing crisis, an energy crisis or even an immigration crisis. These are practical problems that could start to be fixed with a few intelligent people putting their heads together drawing up logical plans. The crisis we have is a political one. If you had sincere reasonable people running the country, who genuinely just want to make things better, with access to good technical advice and the power to enforce changes, things could radically improve.
The problem is that we are governed by the people among us who are *most* willing to sell us out like farm animals to be exploited by vested interests. Entropy is always sliding towards ruthless exploitation of the masses by the rich, powerful and treacherous. Slavery in a sense is the natural default. Even with the most committed, sincere and loyal governance it's always a case of pushing a boulder up a hill against these interests. What we have is a system with a very efficient selection bias in favour of those *most* willing to work against the people. We so instinctually recognise the treacherous physiognomy and insincerity of "politicians" that it's cliche. It shouldn't be like that. It almost sounds childish but it really is that simple. We need governance that works for us and not megarich shareholders. Until we somehow solve that fundamental problem, these "crises" will continue to stack up.
