@ms_wroblewski@IMS_Indians I noticed many students are better at Chess this year...I challenged two students and still won but they were thoughtful in their moves!
@MrsNassau@IMS_Indians Thank you for your incredible service to IMS, especially this year with your tireless hours as testing coordinator! You will do great things at GGM.
To explore the Triangle Inequality Theorem, students connected toothpicks together with marshmallows and tested how many toothpicks long they could make each side to still form a πΊοΈ. Then, they manipulated triangle sides on ALEKs with the same goal! @IMS_Indians@collierschools
Wild Pokemon appeared in my classroom! Students needed to solve each inequality, then graph on a number line to "catch" them. Then, they looked for their answers somewhere around the room to catch their next Pokemon! @IMS_Indians@collierschools
Bowling for QB1 Review!! As per our other team games, students in a group all needed to answer randomly generated @EdciteTeam problems to take a turn. Students had a blast rolling the ball while practicing roots, scientific notation, and irrational estimations! @IMS_Indians
With Math 360 (white boards around the room), students demonstrated their understanding of how to calculate approximations of expressions w/pi and square roots. They were assigned one question, then created one for another student to answer! @IMS_Indians@collierschools
Students created flash cards for all perfect square and cube roots. Then, they quizzed their seat partners to see who could answer more roots correctly! We also cut and glued imperfect square roots onto a number line for interactive notes. @IMS_Indians@collierschools
Students played Trashketball before our 1st test! Each temmate answered a different randomly generated problem on @EdciteTeam. Teammates could assist each other but not tell each other answers. We reviewed perfect sq's/cu's, order of ops, and dec./fract. conversion. @IMS_Indians
New this year: Math 360! Students were assigned different integer multiplication probs to solve on their white board space. Then, they rotated around the room to vote "agree / disagree." This led to convos about negatives squared vs negatives cubed! @IMS_Indians @CCPS_Curriculum
8th-grade math teacher Tyler Wippel (@MisterWippel) reached out for copies of US Black Engineer, Hispanic Engineer, & Women of Color magazines so he could make a bulletin board for his students. We were happy to accommodate. Within a day of receiving them he created this board:
Before our FSA: students played in the FSA CARNIVAL! After answering 10 (carefully crafted) ALEKs questions, students earned a ticket. Then they could play one of 4 games to win a second ticket! Students answered a median of 54 problems by the end. @IMS_Indians@collierschools
A message to all 8th Graders taking the FSA Math today -- from famous wrestler the LINEAR EQUATION!! @IMS_Indians@collierschools

@MrPritchett7 Thank you! Low key I wish all students went into Geometry for their first year in high school. Due to its visual nature, I see a lot more students grasp those concepts better...and would give a chance to freshen up basic skills before Algebra.
We made index cards of our 3 volume formulas (cylinder, cone, sphere). Then, we hooked them together w/book rings so we could flip between them with ease! Students will need to memorize them soon...so naturally we needed to quiz each other. @IMS_Indians@collierschools
Gotta Solve 'Em All! Students walked around the room to figure out various problems sponsored by Pokemon. We found out how much Mewtwo's Fortune Telling Service charges per hour, and how much money Snorlax loses when he sleeps in too late for work. @IMS_Indians@Pokemon
Our class bowled today! Each student in a group (3-4) needed to answer a randomly generated transformation question to get a turn. Look at those pins rotate! Students' success reflect their hard work and will translate to their test tomorrow. @IMS_Indians@collierschools
Index card battle! Students started to learn the basics of ROTATIONS on the coordinate plane, first by memorizing clockwise/counter-clockwise graphics. They transferred each major rotation onto index cards and quizzed each other! @IMS_Indians@collierschools
