I support Israel because it is the only place in the Middle East where millions of Arabs vote in free and fair elections. Because the fanatics who scream "Death to Israel" do so after screaming, "Death to America." Because for all Israel's warts, they were not the ones who walked away from peace and two states in 1937, 1947, 1967, 1978, 2000, 2001, 2008.

If an illegal immigrant steals your car, they get arrested by the local or state authorities. They are subject to the jurisdiction of those authorities. Native Americans on the other hand, if they stole their neighbor's horse, were not arrested by the local or state authorities, even though they were within the borders of the US. Elsewhere in the Constitution those Native Americans are referred to as "Indians not taxed." Not taxed for the same reason -- they were not subject to the jurisdiction of US or state law.

The overall US violent crime rate in 2024 was 359 per 100,000. In NYC it was 671. So taking the whole city as a unit, your risk is significantly higher than the overall US risk level, but still low. A number of other major US cities are much worse. Outside the major cities, the rest of the US is markedly better.
