Let's be clear: #BlackLivesMatter, and they matter a hell of a lot more than high-impact papers or babysitting our lasers. We encourage our friends and colleagues to participate in the #Strike4BlackLives this Wednesday.

Check out our new publication exploring quantum information processing applications within the metastable manifolds of 40Ca+ ions (@kyledebry et al.) in @PhysRevLett: https://t.co/KUQHF6UdIS
With the sequence we developed, we were able to correctly distinguish these non-orthogonal rotations in a *single* ternary (qutrit) measurement of our ion with over 99% accuracy!
Now out in Applied Physics Letters from CQE lead authors X. Shi (grad student), S.L. Todaro (postdoc), MIT-CQE member Colin D. Bruzewicz, John Chiaverini, Isaac L. Chuang and co-authors ” Ablation loading of barium ions into a surface-electrode trap”

#134: Noisy dynamical systems evolve error correcting codes and modularity @trevormccrt1@FieteGroup
"Noise punishes connectivity because errors can propagate further and faster in more densely connected networks."

Jim Hartle passed away. He wrote a wonderful book that helped me learn general relativity
As a 22 year old grad student, I spent 6 months at the Institute for Theoretical Physics (ITP) at UCSB, where Hartle was the Director. I was intimidated by him: he was the Director!
Happy to finally discuss two recent projects in fundamental quantum algorithms out now on arXiv, the first from here @MIT and the second with collaborators at NTT BRL in Japan! https://t.co/b3Ycs2yIse and https://t.co/kDnh1dycFe (1/9).
Is it *really* feasible that our intelligence was created by evolution alone?
In my latest preprint with @FieteGroup, @MitQuanta, @iaifi_news, I take a little, academia-sized chip out of this question.

Excited for a return to in-person DAMOP! Come say hi to us!
We’ve got talks from @susanna_todaro and @kyledebry Wednesday morning in H09, and a poster by Jasmine Sinanan-Singh tomorrow afternoon in F01
I am excited to announce that I will be joining the faculty at @UMassAmherst this fall as an Assistant Professor in ECE and will be starting a trapped ion quantum computing lab in their new Physical Sciences Building!
