Proud graduate of @Columbia, @JohnsHopkins, and @GeorgiaSouthern. Current EdD student @GeorgiaStateUniversity. Devoted wife and mom of three. Science Educator!
I am conducting research in the field of education leadership as a doctoral student at Georgia State University. If you or someone you know is a school leader please consider contributing to the field of education leadership by participating in my research. Thank you in advance.
@SciEdSpecialist This so important considering the complexities that exist in our society. Addressing the root causes of societal maladies rooted in inequalities is no easy feat but definitely worth the inspection. Thank you for sharing this #GSUedlead
@stoneysclass I can see the overlap between those 4 points and GA DOE LKES standards. No wonder leaders as evaluated based on their skill set in those areas. #GSUedlead
Black students are disproportionately suspended more than other students rooted in biases. Exposure to a principal with a high propensity to suspend increases studentsโ likelihood of dropping out and engaging with law enforcement. These dynamics equate to systematic failures
Just how important is the school principal? Research suggests investing in an effective principal is likely the most efficient way to affect student achievement- showing gains in reducing absenteeism and growing student test scores.

@LilLiteracyLady This is interesting! I believe biases play a significant role in how we perceive who is ready to transition into leadership. Leaders can attempt to check their biases by learning about heuristics and reflecting on their experiences.
@kEDhurt I completely agree! But I wonder if policy that focuses on closing the achievement gap has resulted in narrowing the focus of school principals which may actually demoniac their ability in carrying out other aspects of school effectiveness.
Research from the Wallace foundation suggests that replacing a principal at the 25th percentile in effectiveness with one at the 75th percentile can increase annual student learning in math and reading by almost 3 months. Districts should consider a shake up! #GSUEdLead
I am Breana a Science Academic Coach in Dekalb County School District. I am interested in how school leaders conceptualize education as an economic good. I learned about the framework while studying at Columbia. It influenced how I understand the function of schools.#GSUEdLead
@WomanFong Pedagogy of the Oppressed transformed how I teach students. The banking method described by Freire described how I was teaching and really inspired me to make a shift in my practices.
Think youโre always right? You arenโt alone, this mindset is known as naive realism. The gestalt cortex in the brain is the cause! Leaders should actively seek out viewpoints that challenge their own. #LeadersDecisionMakingLab#GSUEdLead
@jychoi222 WEB Dubois, back in 1903, explored the concept he called looking glass self. He wrote about how Black folk perceived themselves verses how they perceive themselves through the lens of non black folks. The result was a double consciousness rooted in imbalance power dynamics.
@MissRogersTeach I completely agree! When the CCRPI data drops soon, itโs not just numbers itโs a reflection of our collective efforts and dedication to providing quality instruction to Georgia students. #GsuEdLead
Ever had a selectively helpful colleague? ๐ค Recent research suggests intrinsically motivated employees see it as a moral virtue and are more likely to help others with the same deposition. How has your experience been? #GSUEdlead#workplace
@mrsuremovich A Buddhist parable tells of the several blind men that try to describe an elephant. One says itโs like a spear, one says itโs a like a wall, another says it like a rope. Each perception informed by the manโs position near the elephant. All were right but all were wrong.
