@LakeshaLWallace I agree. Principals are multifaceted leaders who go beyond just focusing on student achievement. They nurture their staff, cultivate a positive school culture, and effectively manage resources to create an environment where both students and teachers can thrive. #GSUEdLead
@FeldwoodCST @GSUEdLead Agree! They play a key role in fostering positive climates, which in turn reduce teacher turnover and directly impact instruction. #GSUEdLead
Strong interpersonal skills are essential to building a positive school culture. Leaders who excel in understanding, connecting with, and empowering their staff create an environment where everyone feels valued and motivated to grow. #GSUedlead
@CatieSimpson47 Agree!. It's concerning how often ELLs & SWDs are overlooked in educational settings. They and their families often feel disenfranchised because they often rank low in data analysis like CCRPI. Viewing students solely as data points undermines our core mission in education.
@3rdwithUnger This makes sense since studies also show that although principal’s impact on students are indirect, they create the factors that influence students’ ability to learn. Suspending students disrupts learning and increases risk of dropout and poor life outcomes. #GSUEdlead
Studies show higher rates of incarceration and dropout among students in schools where leaders are more inclined to suspend students than not, even under similar circumstances. Leaders must weigh decisions for potential ramifications on students.#GSUEdlead
@FeldwoodCST I agree, Allison. It is also noted that an effective principal is one who is committed to providing the support, resource, and school climate that inspire and grow teachers. Thus, an effective principal is effective in so far as his or her teachers are effective. #GSUEdLead
@3rdwithUnger The fact that leadership for high stakes schools are both less diverse and less experienced, highlights a problematic hiring process. There is clearly a need for more targeted, transparent, equitable, and unbiased hiring practices.#GSUEdLead
There is a growing disparity between the varied cultural background of school communities and their leadership. How can school leaders ensure they remain receptive and responsive to the needs of communities with backgrounds different from their own? #GSUEdLead
@w_jankovic Hello Whitney, You have my dream role. In 2007 I was the testing coordinator for the Gateway-to-College program at Tri-County Technical College, SC.
@CaseyMay77@GSUEdLead Hi Casey, looking forward to sharing this final semester with you. What an interesting choice. I would love to read it myself. #GSUEdlead
Hello, I’m Gillian Lee-Fong, Teir 1 Leadership. I aspire to be an ESOL Coordinator, or AP in a school with a EL population. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Pedagogy of the Oppressed continue to guide my educational leadership approach. #GSUEdLead
@d_kinoshita1 I agree, Deidre. It is important to understand different cultural perspectives when working with stakeholders in the school system, including students, staff, and parents. Opening up our own cultural frame of reference also provides a better perspective of every situation.
@hwgsu2023 Supporting teachers means understanding the concept of 'regression to the mean, recognizing that exceptional performance or challenges are likely to normalize over time. Leaders need to provide consistent support, and acknowledge the natural ebb and flow of success. #GSUEdLead
Exploitive leaders use manipulation to control followers, including taking credit for others' work, and exerting pressue. Educational leaders should empower, not exploit. It's disheartening when leaders in education prioritize personal gain over students well-being. #GSUEdLead
@ShenikaG_AVAELA@GSUEdLead It is a survival skill to fear what we do not understand. AI technology is rapidly changing how things are done, and most leaders have not been trained on it. It has been reported that developers do not understand all its capabilities, and there are no guidelines for its use.
@MissRogersTeach@kbrezicha Information gaps can create a breakdown in the processes of an organization. As a leader it is important to create opportunities for collaboration and sharing of ideas. Transparency in information and understanding the processes between departments helps to alleviate the gaps.
@JessicaCha57216 I agree. Leadership is not about being the center of attention. It is about caring about the vision and goals of the organization and working and supporting others to achieve those ends.
Flow, the psychological state in which a person is enjoyably engrossed in an activity, is accomplished when one feels sufficiently challenged, passionate, and motivated. Too much stress and no sense of purpose will demotivate employees and break their flow. #GSUEDLead
@LilLiteracyLady This is why I prefer a bottom-up organizational structure. It might be messy and takes more time to get ideas across, but it allows everyone to have a voice. I often find that the top-down model that is often used in education marginalize teachers, students, and parents.
