@StugatzInOtown@k_lyons55@jackrichrdson Besides the point here but just for process clarification- the 3 player protection limit was just for the first two expansion rounds. Each team is only losing 4 roster players max and will be able to protect 3 more soon
@k_lyons55@StugatzInOtown@jackrichrdson The only thing imo they should have done differently in terms of protection is allowing for first round picks from ‘25 to be exempt
@That80sG@jackrichrdson And honestly, the quicker the league is sold by the LA owners and turned into a more traditional franchise model, the better. So we should be cheering the speed of this on lol.
@That80sG@jackrichrdson You were the one comparing it to the NHL, not me. There was more quality players in year 2 then there were roster spots so calling the play “watered down” is ridiculous.
@jackrichrdson Sucks for sure. Going to 12 is probably premature but glass half full outlook is that they’re going to have to stay there for awhile, it should give everyone time to properly build out their teams and some actual legacies.
@Don_inFarrhaven@jackrichrdson I would probably be more in line with you on this had they kept the process the same as last year. If not the OG markets, they’re at least doing more right by the players who are most impacted by this in this round.
@That80sG@jackrichrdson The NHL was an incredibly dysfunctional league in the years they only ran 6 teams and it hurt them in a big way. I don’t think we should be using them as a blue print for league growth.
@Don_inFarrhaven@jackrichrdson There should be a caveat where our first round picks from previous years are automatically protected…but outside that, I don’t think there’s much wrong with a process that gives players more freedom to choose while still giving the new teams a good foundation to build on.
@Don_inFarrhaven@jackrichrdson I just responded to Jack with my thoughts but to add - I think this is the last we’ll have to deal with this for awhile. The league ballooning to 12 teams in 3 years is tough, but we’re going to see some long term stability out of it.
@jackrichrdson Would obviously love that, but I think the short term pain we’re feeling here as fans of the OG teams is going to be worth it in the long run for this league. Sucks to see our favourites go but having established stars in new markets is a sure way to create hype.

Imagine watching the last however many years of Sens hockey and thinking this was the most disappointing year ever? Disappointing playoff series and a weird year in which they somehow clawed their way into a playoff spot
