The Mitsilo lab is a research group working on applied conservation and development research, and is based at ESSA-Forets at the University of Antananarivo.
We are happy to announce to you that the MiRARI project has officially migrated to the MITSILO lab. You can follow us and find all the information and updates about MiRARI and our other projects on our new website https://t.co/2c1LkRV46T.
✨Our new website is now live!💫 We named it MITSILO which the Malagasy verb for “light the way” and as its name conveys, aims to use the best available scientific and experiential evidence to guide policy. https://t.co/D1PP0P9Cxr 1/n

We also have two new updates:
🌾 1) After months of preparations, our team has resumed the activities to support the manager of Itremo Protected Area and local communities in establishing the Community Management agreement or "Convention de Gestion Communautaire-CGC". 1/n
The aim is to provide robust empirical evidence on what will accelerate the transition to climate-smart solutions, and at the same time lift farmers out of poverty and conserve Madagascar’s unique biodiversity.

A first group of farmers receiving training on climate-smart techniques (organic fertilizer, improved seeds, crop rotation) for coffee, rice, and cassava cultivation; a second group receiving training and funding; and a third control group receiving no external support. 3/n

Pleased to share our new article hot off the press on the compounding impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Enawo cyclone, and the vanilla price collapse on vanilla farmers in rural Madagascar, led by #Henintsoa Rakoto Harison https://t.co/LcnP8kXjx0 1/n
We had a productive trip to the Itremo Massif Protected Area and Madiromirafy with our partners @NaturalJustice, @TeamKMCC , @impact_mada and @bangoruni. We trained local actors and communities on how to manage the protected areas together.
