The United States has defended Israel’s recognition of Somaliland at the UN Security Council, comparing it to the recognition of a “non-existent” Palestinian state by world leaders, including France, Britain, several African states, and others.
Analysts monitoring the situation are now calling on global powers such as the United States, France, and African states to recognize Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) as an independent state. They argue that Ambazonia has been at war with Cameroon for nine years and that its decolonization history is similar to that of Somaliland, Palestine, and Western Sahara. According to these analysts, Ambazonia gained independence from the British Empire in 1961, one year after Cameroon was granted conditional independence from France in 1960.
The analysts further argue that true African independence and freedom from neocolonialism can only be achieved if these emerging states are recognized. They claim that many African countries today are colonial constructs designed to exploit the continent, citing Cameroon as an example of a state shaped by France to extract resources through what they describe as a puppet regime under President Paul Biya, which they say primarily serves French and Western interests.
It should be noted that the President of Ambazonia, Dr. Cho Ayaba, has praised Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, describing it as a courageous decision that respects the dignity and sovereignty of the people.
