Somaliland Names Diaspora Representative for Israel Visit

#Somaliland has appointed an official diaspora representative for its upcoming six-day visit to Israel, scheduled for October 17–22.

The program, organized by #Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Israel-Africa Business Connect, will focus on government engagement, business and investment, technology, knowledge exchange and cultural visits to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa.

The visit points to a growing form of people-to-people engagement between #Somaliland and Israel, with humanitarian, civic and individual initiatives increasingly complementing official ties.

EXSOMALIA — LET US INVITE FREE SOMALILAND TO NATO AND TURN BERBERA INTO A NATO PORT. Somaliland has built its own institutions, maintained relative stability and governed itself for decades while the international community continues to pretend that political reality on the Horn of Africa has not changed. It is time for a new strategy: recognize Somaliland, deepen transatlantic security cooperation and develop Berbera as a major Western maritime-security and logistics hub protecting the Gulf of Aden, Bab el-Mandeb and the routes toward Suez. Today NATO membership is legally open only to European states under Article 10 of the North Atlantic Treaty, so bringing Somaliland into NATO would require a fundamental political and treaty change. I say: start that debate. The strategic challenge is global, and the alliance of free nations must think globally as well. A secure Berbera would strengthen Somaliland, protect international shipping, support the fight against terrorism and piracy, and give Europe and North America a dependable partner at one of the world's most important maritime crossroads.
