Unforgiveness is not just an emotional reaction; it is a spiritual vulnerability and a dangerous crack in the armour of the believer. It is the one place in Scripture where Paul explicitly revealed how Satan takes advantage of believers.
In 2 Corinthians 2:10–11, he wrote, “To whom you forgive anything, I forgive also… lest Satan should take advantage of us, for we are not ignorant of his devices.”
This is what Paul meant by his devices—the cunning manipulations of Satan that thrive in an atmosphere of unforgiveness. Paul was not talking about witchcraft, ancestral curses, or occultic strategies. He was exposing how the enemy uses offence as his master tool.
His “device” is simple yet lethal: to keep believers offended long enough for bitterness to grow into division. Satan does not need to overpower the church; he only needs to keep it divided by offence and pride.
When a believer refuses to forgive, they immediately step out of the flow of divine life. Forgiveness is not optional in the kingdom—it is the oxygen of spiritual health. The very core of redemption is forgiveness.
The cross is God’s loudest declaration that mercy prevails over judgment. To withhold forgiveness after receiving it is to frustrate the grace that saved you. And once that happens, Satan takes advantage.
Unforgiveness hands him the steering wheel of your emotions. It makes you relive pain and justify bitterness. The moment you begin to nurse grudges, you are no longer fighting the devil; you are feeding him. His “advantage” is not power—it is permission.
Every time you refuse to forgive, you grant him access to influence your thoughts, disturb your peace, and distort your discernment.
Paul’s language is revealing. The phrase “take advantage of us” suggests that Satan’s only power is in exploiting weakness. The strong are never at the mercy of the weak; rather, the weak seek to exploit any lapse in the strong. Satan thrives where saints are wounded but unhealed. He knows that a bitter heart cannot host divine wisdom.
That is why Paul shouted, “We are not ignorant of his devices.” His primary device is to make the forgiven refuse to forgive.
Unforgiveness poisons the soul. It robs you of joy, clouds your perception, and dulls your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. It is the unseen cage that traps people who believe they are free. It makes prayer mechanical and worship heavy. Jesus warned, “If you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” He was not threatening rejection; He was diagnosing obstruction.
Unforgiveness blocks the flow of grace, and where grace is hindered, Satan rejoices.
Forgiveness, therefore, is not weakness; it is warfare. It is how the believer shuts the door Satan is desperate to enter. When you forgive, you break his cycle of accusation. When you release people, you release yourself.
When you walk in mercy, you reaffirm Christ’s triumph over the accuser. Forgiveness is not a favour to your offender—it is a declaration of dominion.
The eternal purpose of God is that the Church should display to principalities and powers the manifold wisdom of God, not the manifold bitterness of men.
Every act of forgiveness manifests that wisdom. Every refusal to forgive fuels Satan’s ancient device.
So guard your heart. Refuse to keep records of wrongs. Do not let offence build a monument in your memory. The devil’s greatest strategy has always been to turn forgiven people into unforgiving saints. Paul was right
we are not ignorant of his devices. Forgive quickly, walk freely, love deeply, and let no advantage be given to the adversary.
@Mhz_lowlah Please use scripture to interpret scripture and ensure the fullness of scripture is presented. The Levites were used to redeem the firstborn sons. We have all been called to be kings and priests (Levites) unto God. No particular birth order is excluded
@Mhz_lowlah “Of all the people of Israel, the Levites are reserved for me. I have claimed them for myself in place of all the firstborn sons of the Israelites; I have taken the Levites as their substitutes. Yes, I have claimed the Levites in place of all the firstborn sons...

@chidnweke@deleosunmakinde Pls let scripture interpret scripture. God also said that the Levites (priests) had now been seperated.
