I also exist on the other site. Drop a follow there, too! I'll continue cross-posting here for the time being, but we will see how long this site lasts.
You can absolutely take any metric from 20+ years ago and it’s infinitely more difficult today.
Athletics? My daughter runs track. She’s fast and she’s determined. My husband ran too in the mid-90s. Times now to get into college are soooo much faster. Not even in the same realm. College times then are now what you have to run as a sophomore in high school to be even somewhat decent.
Academics? My other daughter is crazy smart. All honors, AP, straight A’s. Wasn’t even in the top 10% of her graduating class. She did what I did in high school to be in contention for valedictorian. Now you’ve got kids with impossible GPAs who take classes before school, online and full schedules during the year.
Jobs? You’re up against 100 other applicants and the job might not even be real in the first place. And that one job probably won’t even pay all your bills. You’ll need to somehow figure out a second one.
Absolutely ANY metric toward success is harder than it was and by a LONGSHOT. At some point, you just don’t have the means to go any faster, be any smarter, work any harder.
The fact that older generations don’t recognize it is absolutely the problem.
