🚨BREAKING: The Patient Information Modernization Act of 2025 has been introduced!
We commend @SenMullin & @SenBooker in the Senate and @RepHarshbarger & @RepSherrill in the House for their bipartisan leadership.
Next step: Passage ✅
Today, my colleague @RepSherrill and I reintroduced our bipartisan Prescription Information Modernization Act. Pharmacists and physicians deserve timely, accurate prescription data, not pages of paper that arrive late, may be outdated, and get tossed. This bipartisan bill is a practical update that empowers healthcare professionals with real-time digital access, cuts waste, ensures patients receive the most up-to-date information, and brings prescribing information into the 21st century.

Printed Rx info can take up to 12 months to reach doctors & pharmacies after an update. Online #RXInfo is updated in real time.

Billions of prescriptions.
Mountains of paper.
Outdated rules.
21st century healthcare requires 21st century solutions. Digital Rx info is one of the safest & fastest ways to ensure patient safety.
As debates over environmental responsibility intensify across industries, one thing is clear: every sheet of paper has a footprint and now we can measure it more accurately than ever.

Outdated paper labeling delays safety updates, drives up costs, and creates massive waste. Digital prescribing information would deliver the same FDA-approved content—faster, safer, and more sustainably.
It’s 2025, but prescribing information is still printed and shipped on paper — tens of *billions* of pages a year. Providers already get updates online. It’s time for FDA rules to catch up and make labeling digital-first.
The government may be shut down, but all the insane, burdensome red tape isn’t. Outdated regulation alone is costing:
📄 90 billion sheets of paper
🌲 10 million trees lost
💧 11 billion gallons of water wasted
⏳ 11 years since the FDA first proposed going digital
Online prescribing information is preferred by medical professionals, updated in real-time, and is easily accessible. We want to #ModernizeRXInfo because it puts patients first.

The requirement to print prescribing information was written in 1962. That's far too long to wait for an update to the rules.
It's time to #ModernizeRXInfo!
🚨 SHOCKING → 90 BILLION pieces of paper are still printed each year because 1960s-era government red tape requires often outdated info to be sent on paper to pharmacists instead of digitally like they prefer.
The Environmental Paper Network expertly explains how modernizing prescribing information is better for healthcare professionals, cuts costs, and saves trees.
The US still prints 90B+ sheets of paper each year for drug inserts. A new bipartisan bill would give
@US_FDA authority to move to digital prescribing info, cutting waste, lowering costs & improving care. @WhatsNYourPapr

.@EliLillyandCo's Diogo Rau nails why we need the Prescription Information Modernization Act: “It’s better for the environment, but it’s also better for society because it just makes things more accessible to everybody that’s out there.”
Cutting 90B paper inserts is an environmental win, but the bigger impact is accessibility. Digital drug info helps patients with vision, language, or motor challenges better understand their meds. @EliLillyandCo

By 2021, over 90% of prescribers were using electronic prescribing, a sharp rise from 79% in 2019, and nearly all pharmacies now accept prescriptions digitally.
As healthcare continues to modernize, drug information must follow by becoming digital, trustworthy, and accessible.
The future of prescribing is digital! We must move away from outdated paper labels toward real-time electronic updates—improving patient safety and cutting down on environmental waste.
Moving from paper to digital prescribing information isn't just modern; it's efficient. Real-time access and fewer errors transform patient care.
Let's drive this change! 🚀📈
Reducing paper usage in pharma isn't just eco-friendly—it's efficient! Digital prescribing info streamlines processes and enhances access for all healthcare stakeholders.
Efficiency boost: Switching from paper to digital for prescribing info reduces errors and speeds up access.
It's time for the pharma industry to embrace the future! 🌟💊
