Welcome to Modular DM! Where we help make improvisation less daunting by giving you reusable tools, and uncovering WHY these tools work so well by diving into psychology and game design. So you can easily adjust any tool on the fly to fit the situations your players throw at you
RAW without Homebrew is like eating Oreos without milk. The cookie is great but… milk just makes it even better. No knives please. #DnD#TTRPG#DnD5e#Homebrew
Big thanks to @samreich for the inspiration in the latest videos. Was really cool seeing what you can do in under 1-minute, and making sure the sketch perfectly loops. It's true when they say that limitations in a medium inspire creativity
Huge gripe I hear from GMs related to One Shots is how difficult it is to balance encounters, because players are an unknown until you sit down at the table. That’s why when I run a one shot that isn't meant to be deadly, I give each player a single 2d4 + 2 potion of healing
Quick tip if you're going to be running a one shot where the characters are level 5 or higher: consider giving them a magical weapon at the start of the game. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches from overlooking weapon resistance on a monster block
The Magic Item Lottery is a really cool technique I use when giving players a magic item to start with in a One Shot that ensures every player gets a fun item to use, and allows your players to choose the best item for their character. #dnd
@itsginnydi With how on-point and lifelike your cosplays are I'm worried you might be a doppelganger... may need to shine a moonbeam on you to make sure you're not
First time ever making a skit like this, was a lot of fun but gave me mad respect for people like @XPtoLevel3 who have been doing this for a long time. Now... i need to buy some more lights and mics haha
Sometimes YouTube truly does rec the perfect video for you. Really needed to go back and listen to this Colville video from years back. https://t.co/4vUlF4bNWb
@aimeecarrero You have my utmost respect for the dedication here.
Reminds me of the flowcharts my players made for their characters when we had a few sessions where they all swapped bodies (and thus handed over their character sheet and flowchart to the new player). Good times.
@HalfOrcClub Only a couple times max each session (sometimes none). When I can sense that a moment would really benefit from some extra tension I throw this in. Too often and it simply becomes the norm.
One reason big moments feel so impactful in games like Baldur's Gate 3, or shows like Dimension 20, is they understand the importance of reducing the lag time between "rolling the dice" and knowing exactly what happens next. It's worth keeping in mind while GM'ing #dnd
