Today, 1 August 2026, we commemorate the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Puntland, a historic moment born from sincere consultations, collective aspirations, and a shared determination to create a new political path for Somalia based on federalism. The founders of Puntland laid the foundation for a model of self-governance and contributed to the broader vision of rebuilding the Somali state. Although federalism has become part of Somalia’s constitutional order, the journey of state-building remains a responsibility that requires wisdom, unity, and commitment from all Somalis.

On this occasion, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Puntland and to all Somalis who see this day as a symbol of hope, resilience, and a new beginning in Somalia’s state-building journey. I offer my special congratulations to President Said Abdullahi Deni, the Puntland Government, and parliament. I also pray that Allah (SWT) grants mercy to the founders of Puntland, rewards them for their vision and sacrifices, and blesses all those who continue serving the cause of peace, stability, and development.

May this 28th anniversary bring a renewed spirit of dialogue and reconciliation among Somalis, and may it open the door for a lasting political understanding between the Federal Government of Somalia and its opposition. May Allah guide our leaders toward wisdom, unity,  and may this anniversary strengthen our collective hope for a peaceful, prosperous, and united Somalia.

When Uganda and the TCC countries added that clause to the communiqué, what they were trying to do was take Somalia back to the roadmap era so they could continue milking the cow while doing nothing. Our brave men and women are on the front line day and night, liberating town after town and village after village.

I am not surprised that the so-called mucaarad and their supporters are praising that communiqué. Just days ago, the same mucaarad wrote, "We need Somalia to go back to the era of transition." That alone shows their interests are not the interests of Somalia or its people. They have made it clear that they are working for those who want to keep Somalia unstable.

President Hassan stood his ground and defended his country and the pride of his people. That despicable clause is removed. PERIOD.⬇️

#OnThisDay: On August 1, 1996, Mohamed Farrah Hassan Aidid, a former general, diplomat, and one of Somalia's most influential political and military leaders of the 1990s, died in #Mogadishu, Somali capital.

Aidid declared himself President of #Somalia on June 15, 1995, although his claim was not internationally recognized. Following the collapse of the Somali government in 1991, he emerged as a central figure in the country's civil war and became Somalia's most powerful faction leader during the 1990s.

He is also widely known for leading armed resistance against United Nations and U.S.-led forces. One of the most significant confrontations was the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu, widely known as Black Hawk Down.

The battle resulted in heavy casualties, with hundreds of Somalis killed and wounded, 18 U.S. soldiers killed, and two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters shot down. It remains one of the defining events of the international intervention in Somalia and continues to be widely discussed by historians, military analysts, and policymakers.

Despite repeated operations following the battle, U.S. Delta Force and Army Rangers failed to capture Aidid. The manhunt continued for months before it was eventually abandoned. The U.S.-led mission later came to an end, and foreign forces completed their withdrawal from Somalia in 1995.

I met a Kenyan researcher in one of top UK universities leading cutting edge work on dynamic systems (livestock selective breeding). He worked in wajir for 7 years got frustrated and was poached to UK. He says dairy potential is high in ASAL but leadership is biggest obstacle! Couldn’t agree more. It's unfortunate. Somali President HSM refused to allow the AU and other International partners to mediate among Somalia's political stakeholders, knowing that without a political settlement, the support of the international community would be difficult. It was last year while TCC met in Kampala and offered to help President HSM with political dialogue with regional states and oppositions and he refused though he promised to accommodate stakeholders, which he didn't.

Regrettably, we can all understand where Somia is heading.
