ஜூலை 7ஆம் தேதி, அயப்பாக்கம் பகுதியில் தனியார் ஆழ்துளைக் கிணறுகள் மூலம் அளவுக்கு அதிகமாக நிலத்தடி நீர் உறிஞ்சப்படுவதால் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள தண்ணீர் தட்டுப்பாடு குறித்து அப்பகுதி மக்களை நேரில் சந்தித்து, அவர்களின் கோரிக்கைகளைக் கேட்டறிந்தேன்.

உடனடி தற்காலிக நடவடிக்கையாக, சம்பந்தப்பட்ட ஆழ்துளைக் கிணறுகளின் செயல்பாடு நிறுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. அயப்பாக்கத்தின் நிலத்தடி நீர்வளத்தைப் பாதுகாத்து, அனைவருக்கும் சீரான குடிநீர் கிடைப்பதை உறுதி செய்யும் வகையில், சம்பந்தப்பட்ட துறை அதிகாரிகள் மற்றும் பொதுமக்களுடன் இணைந்து நிலையான நிரந்தரத் தீர்வை நோக்கி தொடர்ந்து செயல்படுவோம்.

On 7th July, I met with the residents of Ayyapakkam to discuss their concerns regarding the excessive extraction of groundwater through private borewells, which has been contributing to water scarcity in the area.

As an immediate measure, the operation of these borewells has been temporarily stopped. We will continue working with the concerned authorities and residents towards a sustainable and permanent solution to protect Ayyapakkam’s groundwater resources and ensure equitable access to water for all.

Putting resources directly into the hands of people is not inherently bad economics. From cash transfers in Brazil and Mexico to child benefits in Europe and stimulus payments in the United States, well-designed welfare measures have improved household security, increased consumption and strengthened local economies.

A small gold gift for a newborn can be a meaningful asset for a family and a symbol of societal support for every child.

The real question is not welfare versus development. A responsible government must deliver both.

At TVK, we firmly believe that every child deserves a dignified start in life and access to world-class public healthcare. We are equally committed to ensuring better hospitals, more doctors, modern neonatal care, medicines, ambulances and clean public health infrastructure.

The failure of governance is not in giving to the people; it is in using welfare as a substitute for good governance.

Tamil Nadu deserves a government that can do both - empower its people directly and build institutions that serve them with excellence.

Had a wonderful and insightful discussion on the state of cyber security in Tamil Nadu and the proactive measures our Government is taking to build a secure and resilient digital ecosystem at the National Cyber Security Conference 2026, organized by the National Cyber Security Research Council (NCSRC) at the IIT Madras Research Centre.
