Ahead of the official launch of the Lesotho TB Parliamentary Caucus, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Lesotho, Dr. Innocent Nuwagira, met with Hon. Mokhothu Makhalanyane Chairperson of the Social Cluster in the Parliament, to deliberate on the countryโs commitment to ending tuberculosis. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Llang Maama, the Acting Director General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health. Dr Nuwagira emphasized the need for multi-sectoral collaboration and leadership in line with the Multisectoral Accountability Framework and reaffirmed WHOโs ongoing support to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The Caucus, scheduled to be launched on 8 May 2026 at the National Assembly, will bring together Members of Parliament, policymakers, civil society organizations, and international partners. Its mission is to initiate a unified, multifaceted national response to TB, while positioning Lesotho as a leader in the regional fight against the disease.
This move highlights Lesothoโs determination to meet global TB elimination targets by 2030, in line with the End TB Strategy and the UN High-Level Meeting commitments. By mobilizing resources, fostering regional collaboration, and reinforcing political will, the Caucus aims to transform aspirations into tangible outcomes that save lives and improve health for generations to come.

"It was agreed that if we were going to use Lesotho territory to bring the water to Gauteng, we need to pay Lesotho some compensation. And that compensation was calculated on the basis that they were helping us to save money, they deserve a share of that saving."

Hearing David van Wyk's perspectives about the ๐ฟ๐ฆ mining industry and its contribution to the poverty in neighbouring states, esp #Lesotho and #Mozambique, is always so refreshing. It was great hearing him mention the pollution of water sources by the diamond mines in ๐ฑ๐ธ. #Lesotho's own investigative journalist, @PascalinahK has done a lot of work in this area.
Thanks for the highlight, ntate @JohnPerlman. ๐๐พ๐๐พ
