Assistant Professor of English at Clark Atlanta U. British/Irish/postcolonial literature, Chicago, Notre Dame football, public transit, my dog, potatoes.
@erica_d_stevens I had a student announce, with actual glee: “I figured out how to get a good grade in your class! If I come to class, I know what to write about for my papers, and then I do better!” I couldn’t even reply. I think my jaw is still on the floor.
@erin_zoutendam A couple years ago, my son’s daycare had him fill out this sheet for Mother’s Day. In the “my mom’s job” spot, he wrote “she goes to meetings.” Honestly, what is class if not a big meeting?
@wonton_sarah More water than snack related, but one of my strongest childhood memories is just this consistent, dull, aching headache. I always had a headache. When I grew up and could manage myself a little and started drinking water I realized I had just been like consistently dehydrated
@PanasonicDX4500 I saw this last night and was in genuine shock, my raised-Episcopalian husband was significantly less distressed. This really threw me for a loop. I don’t UNDERSTAND
@NEVERLOGGINGOUT I have a running theory that 10 Things I Hate About You is set in Seattle precisely because 1999 straddles the Seattle of this image (Kat) and the tech/Microsoft Seattle of the future (Bianca)
@CigsMake This shit drives me crazy, I live in the very core of a major city and your description describes my life basically to a T. The American dream didn’t die, it’s being kept alive by millennials in D+50 urban core neighborhoods
@PanasonicDX4500 I did my MA in Galway years ago — I remember being at some house party and the fridge had a “Free Palestine” magnet (the host was in no way overtly political). I said “i really like your magnet, thats great to see” and I got a puzzled “well obviously, of course”
@madisontayt_ When I was like 12 my family hosted a French foreign exchange student, and she was a problem for a lot of reasons, but I remember one day she was giving my parents hell for Vietnam. They were like “ok, the French in particular don’t get to do this” and she was like why not?
@talia_baia Once when I was there the local news issued a warning that skin exposed to the air would get frostbite in something like 8 minutes and ND still held class
@infinite_jaz I was raised by a Northern Irish Catholic dad who knew he was with Palestine, even if he couldn’t articulate why. My sister did a Fulbright in Jordan, I visited her, she took me to the West Bank and in seconds I moved from “ok Palestine” to “this is the most important thing ever”
@mindyisser “The [Husband’s Last Name] Family” bothers me the most for some reason. Is it that much harder to do “The Slavin-Husband’s Last Name Family”?
@CartoonsHateHer A family of four girls went to my high school (yes, one in every year) and their mom would pull them out to go shopping sometimes and everyone was absolutely aghast and incredulous every time (as they should have been!)
