BRAIDS ARE DESTROYING YOUR HAIR and Here’s Why…PART 2 🧪
The conversation isn’t about attacking braiders or telling women to stop wearing braids. It’s about understanding the materials we’re putting in our hair for weeks at a time and making more informed choices.
Braiding hair recommendations:

A few things to keep in mind: “protective style” does not mean maintenance-free.
Your scalp still produces sebum, you still sweat, products still accumulate, and your natural hair still needs to be properly cleansed while it’s braided.
1. The braiding hair is treated with an alkaline coating during manufacturing.
One reason for the coating is to help protect the hair from bacteria and fungus while it’s being packaged and stored.
The problem is, our natural hair and scalp aren’t supposed to stay highly alkaline. So when that coating is sitting against your hair for weeks at a time, especially if you’re not shampooing your braids, that’s where we can start running into problems.
NOW: Haitian man collapses on the ground in tears as he is fitted with an ankle monitor by ICE office in Blue Ash Ohio. TPS holders are checking in at the location as the protective status ended

For @nickarrington1, running became more than exercise. What started as a way to cope with heartbreak and uncertainty eventually led him toward healing through faith, movement, and therapy. Today, he's using that journey to encourage more Black communities to see running and mental health as powerful tools for change. 🖤

.@PastorHJW, the senior pastor at the Alfred Street Baptist Church, In Alexandria, Virginia, had a powerful message for his congregation on Sunday. He described those who are silent and chose not to vote are complicit and called them sellouts.
Respectability politics has never worked for Black people — and it never will with people who don’t respect you to begin with.
For years I’ve been told to change my approach. Today I challenge those in leadership to consider that the approach they’ve been using got our s*** stolen.
The strategy now has to be to take something back from them — power.
I’ve been doing this work for over a decade. Folks didn’t partner with me or support me when I ran because I was considered “radical” — as if demanding equity is radical.
It’s time for a different approach. A different posture. One with some fight in it. I’m leaning in regardless — I’m just wondering how many of us are ready now.
