My paper with Chris Krewson (@BYU) and Jessica Schoenherr (@UofSC_PoliSci) is available with open access on Research & Politics! Using digital trace data, we find that the ProPublica story on Clarence Thomas increased info seeking about #SCOTUS by 300% 📈https://t.co/1w6cTh4hU2
Got a special mail delivery! I was sad to miss MPSA this year, but am so honored to receive the Sophonisba Breckinridge Award for the best paper on women and politics presented at the 2023 conference!
I really enjoyed this short piece by @NateGrubman on recent events in Tunisia. Definitely worth a read for anyone interested in how autocrats manipulate public discourse!
It was such a pleasure discussing @SierraThomander’s paper at @gpp_polisci today. She’s doing fascinating work on women candidates & the pipeline to office! Can’t wait to see more of it!
Watching @k_stauffer receive the @mwcps_tweets Early Career Award yesterday will definitely be a #MPSA2023 highlight for me. She’s incredibly brilliant and a generous mentor and advocate. Still pinch myself that somehow I get to call her such a close friend. 🎉🎉🎉
I’m excited to be part of this great #MPSA2023 panel w/ @MedDhiaH@hmridge & @NateGrubman. If you’re interested in quasi-experiments and/or public opinion in the MENA region, join us today at 3pm!
It’s that time of year! Women & non-binary political scientists, join us for the Women’s March Madness Tournament! 🏀 Details below ⬇️
(My brackets somehow came in first and last place last year so I’m gunning for both again! I welcome competition at both ends.)
The recipient of the MPSA Latina/o Caucus Best Graduate Student Paper for 2023 is Kennia L. Coronado, for the paper: “The Construction of Latino Identity in Presidential Elections.”
Kennia is a PhD Candidate in the Dept. of Political Science at UW-Madison.
Congrats, Kennia!
@lizzie_brannon@IUPOLS Am late to the party but congratulations Lizzie! I’m so fond of my time @IUPOLS and in Bloomington (and it’ll be even better w/ you there)!
MENA friends: We’ve rightly focused on Turkey & Syria this week.
But I kindly ask you spare a thought for #Tunisia, where more & more pro-democracy ppl—many of whose only crime is criticising 🇹🇳’s president-turned-putschist, Kais Saied—are being abducted & abused.
A short 🧵:
I’m delighted to announce that I will be joining the Department of Political Science at @miamiuniversity as an Assistant Professor in the fall. Grateful to my mentors, colleagues, friends, family, and cat for dealing with me.
Thanks to this amazing group of women for joining us for the first Women in Legislative Studies Conference! 75 participants, 33 research papers papers, mentoring + networking! Can't wait to see you next year in Madison! #WiLS2022
