Today in The Hive we all connected and worked together to become an orchestra!
We listened to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (winter) and we recreated the music with our violins. What an amazing orchestra we are!@Musicmonksdown1
Today we discussed internet safety. We talked about games online for young children that are fun and safe: Cup Cake Dance, Rainbow Friends and Sonic the Hedgehog. We talked about how we should check with an adult before going on a new game. @MonksdownReads @monksdownDl
We have had fun for Number day e.g. playing Bingo and snakes and ladders ; matching and ordering numbers; counting and identifying money. Issac skipped to the dinner hall to place our order. Can you guess how many skips from the hall to The Hive. @NSPCC #numberday
Continuing our Chinese New Year celebrations in The Hive, we all helped to make some Chinese noodles, rice and dumplings. We chopped the vegetables and rolled the dough.
We used chopsticks to eat our food, it was a bit tricky but we all did really well. Well done !.
To celebrate Chinese New Year we read the story of how the Chinese Calendar was created, then acted it out. We tried to use chopsticks and write in Chinese. This year is the year of the Rabbit, so we practiced our rabbit cutting skills. @MonksdownReads
At lunch one of our children asked “ Where does all the rain come from?” So we learned all about the water cycle. We heated water to show evaporation and used the pan lid to catch the steam and demonstrate condensation. Finally we poured the water into a cup - precipitation.
We have been reading The Lion inside: today we used Lego and different blocks to build our own “mighty flat rock” and “tinyful house” @MonksdownReads @MonksdownSTEM
Today we went out exploring our wintery surroundings. We found a frozen spiders web, frosty fencing and crunchy ice all over the grass. We had to wrap up warm and be careful not to slip and fall. @MonksdownSTEM
Another crafty stay and play day in The Hive. Parents and children enjoyed making the old favourite traditional paper chains. @MonksdownHive @MonksdownMakes
For Art Week we learnt lots of new skills: rollers and sponges for texture, colour mixing to match the Winter Wonderland sky and spiralling painted string to create texture and it wouldn’t be Christmas without a sprinkle of glitter- sorry cleaners!@MonksdownMakes
For ‘Art Week’ the children in KS2 Nurture made some fantastic snowflakes! They made their own patterns, cut them out and glued all of their pieces together. Look how hard they are concentrating! Well done everyone.@MonksdownMakes
We had our ‘Stay and Play’ in The Hive today. The parents had a fabulous time joining in with our activities for ‘Art Week’. We all made snowflakes and decorated them . The children then helped to prepare breakfast for their parents. It was so much fun.@MonksdownMakes
On our shopping trip the children had to work out were all of the ingredients would be in the shop. Our fist item on the list was chocolate powder. We looked on the chocolate aisle then the drinks aisle before going to the tea and coffee aisle as they are hot drinks too! 👍
Back at The Hive we looked at our eggs, holding them, shaking them and breaking them to see what was inside. Then we looked at the different ways you can cook eggs. We fried, boiled and scrambled them and made an omelette. Raitis loved them however they were cooked!
After a quick refreshment break Abbey, the chicken carer, then showed us how to check if an egg is fresh and good to eat using a bowl of water. We got to take a dozen freshly laid eggs back to the hive.
