Crypto payments in Catch Freight are designed to provide a transparent, instant, and on-chain settlement alternative to traditional bank transfers. Here is the high-level flow of how they work:

- Carrier Setup: Carriers define their preferred payout currency (BTC, ETH, USDC, or SOL) and their corresponding wallet address in their Payout Preferences.

- Triggering Settlement: When a delivery is marked as "delivered" in the Proof of Delivery dashboard, an authorized user (the delivery owner or an admin) can initiate the settlement.

- Verification: The system uses a backend function (verifyAndSettlePayment) to:
* Validate the delivery status and ensuring the user has the rights to settle.
* Cross-reference the delivery record against the authoritative Load record (controlled by the broker) to ensure the payment amount is accurate and tamper-proof.
* Compute a SHA-256 verification hash of the delivery data to create an immutable link between the ePOD and the settlement.

- Live Conversion: Since the load rate is in USD, the system fetches the live market exchange rate for the chosen cryptocurrency from Coinbase (using CoinGecko as a reliable fallback). It then calculates the exact amount of crypto required to equal the USD settlement amount.

- Recording:
* The settlement is created with a pendingstatus, recording the conversion rate, crypto amount, and destination wallet address.
* The ePOD record is updated as settled, and the verification hash is permanently linked to it.

- Finalization: Once the system creates these records, the crypto payout is marked as "pending" for manual or automated on-chain confirmation (the system provides the amount and wallet address to the carrier).
