@LakeTahoeUSFS Point of correction, the fire was caused by 100+ years of mismanagement in the forest. Blaming an avalanche on the last snowflake to land is a bit disingenuous. A healthy Sierra forest ecosystem doesn't explode into crown fire *purely* due to a campfire.
The AFS team is conducting a prescribed burn in the area of I-80 and Cape Horn, NE of Colfax. Smoke will be visible from both sides of the ridge, including the I-80 corridor. #wildfire#cawildfire#rxfire#prescribedfire#placercounty
The AFS team is conducting a prescribed burn today (4/27) in the area of Ross Ct and Gayle Ln, in Auburn. Smoke may be visible from Christian Valley Rd and the surrounding areas. https://t.co/2CnqP2tpDI for more info. #wildfire#cawildfire#rxfire#prescribedfire#placercounty

AFS Engine 01 was first on scene to a vegetation fire today, in the area of Hwy 49 and Smith Rd near Grass Valley. With the help of a few bystanders, our engine crew was able to contain the fire to a 50x50 spot before local fire department resources arrived.
@ifoundmetonight The fire has been rapidly expanding to the E most of the afternoon and evening. The flank/heel of the fire is moving towards Cool. We could see this happening across the canyon from our position.
AFS Engine 01 is currently assigned to the #MosquitoFire in #Foresthill, providing structure protection. Video taken from Church St, looking S to the canyon. Fire estimated to reach Church St structures in next 30 minutes. Multiple strike teams staged. #wildfire#cawildfires
@ifoundmetonight As of about 23:00 lines in the area of Mosquito Ridge and Church St were holding, and we did not encounter any damaged structures. We made contact with multiple strike team elements, and they have a sturdy plan developed for the next several hours.
@mebutnotmetwo@CALFIRENEU The fire will most likely be growing to the N and E. While overnight air drainage will bring smoke down canyon, humidity recovery makes spotting to the S and W unlikely. We would expect to see the largest jumps in acreage occur daily between 1200 and 1700 hours.
We used this product with incredible success during the 2021 #CaldorFire. With 3 homes in Pollock Pines, and 6 cabins in Christmas Valley, all of our structures survived completely undamaged. Our own testing has shown this product to provide a 90% decrease in flame intensity.
AFS has clear, biodegradable fire retardant ready to deploy to the #MosquitoFire in #Foresthill. This is a precision-applied product for all wood and natural vegetation, requiring no cleanup, and is safe around pets. Contact us to arrange application. #wildfire#cawildfire
@MichaelWX18 Looking at this fuel configuration, a prescribed fire sometime in the past ~3 months would have absolutely prevented this hostile fire from moving through like this. Devastating how that's a conversation only had in the context of hindsight. #culturalfire#prescribedfire
@CALFIRENEU How does the Unit justify this, when we haven't received a call back in over 9 days for our boilerplate burn plan for 3 acres, with agency engine support for contingency, at 1200' more elevation, with a 15 day average BI around 35, and a whopping 19 BI today?
@CALFIRENEU With a Burn Index hovering in the mid 30's for most of the past 2 weeks, it sure seems like a lot of valuable preventative work is being blocked. Any thoughts on that? Winds have been under 10mph consistently, RH 30-50%, over an inch of rain since the ban...
