@KIN110UofR I was wondering if tentree actually plants 10 trees for every item sold. I googled it, and on their website it says they do. Do you guys think this is true, or just used as a marketing strategy? https://t.co/1Y1cgl4SC2
As a long distance runner, some cross-country meets take place on golf courses. However, if there are a lot of competitors, the grass gets trampled. I’ve had meets where it rained or snowed so the race was canceled to reduce the damage done.
@KIN110UofR As a runner, I noticed people prefer a medical mask to run in opposed to a cloth one. This is because the material is lighter and more breathable. Also after a mask is covered in sweat, it’s easier to dispose of it. This is an example of creating waste in sport.
@cartersoren19@KIN110UofR In relation to Carter’s post, animals legs and wings are getting caught in face masks. Remember to cut the straps before throwing masks out. https://t.co/fNTdFw7FAa
@KIN110UofR We mentioned in class giving fit people a benefit of some sort. This could be more scholarships (not only for top athletes, but for all athletes), or a draw that people registered in sport could win.
This article is from Washington Post. It is an example of a female athlete who made the news. Not because of her success, but based on the fact that she is different from her competitors. Caster Semenya is a hermaphrodite, who identifies as female. https://t.co/15Jdf2OGqs
@jola94050499 @KIN110UofR As a track athlete, I am following many pro runners on social media who talk about their mental health. Sage Watson, a Canadian hurdler recently just opened up about some of her struggles with mental health. I find in today’s society more celebrities are opening up.
@Blavallee91 @KIN110UofR If Justin Turner tested positive for COVID-19, he was most likely in close contact with his teammates leading up to his result. If Turner had to isolate, shouldn’t his teammates as well? I think that his team may already be infected so why not come together to celebrate their win
@KIN110UofR The textbook uses people with disabilities as an example of deviance. However, I disagree and believe that a disability doesn’t break the rules or violate norms. People with disabilities should be normalized because in some way everyone has a disability. Ex: being short, glasses
@KIN110UofR Hi Kaitlyn, I like your idea of kicking #racistfans out of sporting events. However, I do find unlikely that people will be banned from using racist slurs. It is hard to keep track of people that are not allowed in certain places, but also fans are a huge aspect in sport.
@BorzelSalzl @KIN110UofR I find a lot of racist comments come from when people of colour get a penalty. To minimize the assumption that the penalty was given due to race/ ethnicity reasons, there should be a minimum number of refs that come from different cultures during major sport events.
@ZoeD_Chen@KIN110UofR According to google, basketball is the sport that causes the most injuries. 22% of all male basketball players will get an injury in any given year. If risk of injury is such a big issue, why are people allowed to play sports with a higher risk of injury? https://t.co/dlvGPsiYxb
@ZoeD_Chen@KIN110UofR I think trans women should have the same opportunity’s in sport as everyone else, but specifically I think “risk of injuries” is a weak reason. Every sport comes with the risk of injury that people just have to accept if they want to play.
