Charles Taylor Pepper, the namesake of the popular soft drink Dr Pepper, had his pharmacy in downtown Rural Retreat and is buried at the local cemetery. Tomorrow, the town will have a display of memorabilia at the local train depot in honor of Dr. Pepper day weekend.

I walked the Chilhowie Apple Festival with the Smyth county GOP. The Apple Festival always has a great parade with lots of marching bands.

It was good to be back at Emory and Henry today. The duck pond is a central feature of the campus. Back when I was a student, my fraternity brothers threw me in the pond as a celebratory gesture after I was accepted into Law School.
