Pulled the numbers for the purposes of haranguing the youth during lecture tomorrow. Guess which of these age groups will be living on this planet the longest?
The @evo_lagniappe postbacc crew had a perfectly Louisiana day retreat: zydeco breakfast + dancing, hike on a Nature Conservancy trail full of herps and birds, and a swamp boat tour. Laissez les bin temps rouler! #RaMP#NSFfunded

@Plant_Insect We've don a mix of writing them in the first vs. second year. But many of the scholars in our postbacc program also write them and I try to encourage honors thesis students to write them as well. So we've got a pretty good crew in BIO if you want to join us next year!
Wissam is a fantastic scientist, and has followed his love of natural history and an intuition about behavior to design an experiment showing something important about how climate change will affect predator-prey dynamics in marsh ecosystems.
Keep an eye on this one folks ๐๐
Check out @_Wissam_J 's first chapter -- showing that heat waves force choices between behavioral thermoregulation and predator avoidance in marsh snails. With @ana_salgado22

Congrats to @JanetMansaray, the first #LagoLab@LSU_BioSci grad student to defend her PhD dissertation! She gave an excellent public defense on #Centropogon phylogenomics, macroevolution, and as a system for CURE course inquiry. The finish line is in sight!

Lots of new grad students starting in research labs this month, including many who have been taught (in subtle or overt ways) that they need to fight to prove they belong. Itโs an exhausting way to spend your career. So Iโm re-upping this for anyone who needs to hear it today:
Two lab manuscripts accepted in 48 hours! Congrats to @Jamie_Phelps123, @saltyecoevo, @vaidya_ruj Heather Rodriguez and Emma Crable.
And stay tuned from some exciting results re. hypoxia tolerance in oysters and pupal color polymorphism in butterflies!
I give my promotion talk next week. Last night I dreamt that as I was being introduced, I realized that my talk was only half done, so that I was frantically adding slides while walking to the podium. Those 'not ready for class' dreams never die!
