In approving unconstitutional, warrantless surveillance of Americans, so many members of the House betrayed the American people—disregarding the Fourth Amendment and trashing our rights—that the list of yeas barely fits legibly on a screen.

The attached images show the representatives who voted yea to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with FISA 702 and those who voted nay to reject the NDAA with FISA 702.

These representatives were elected to support and defend the Constitution. That’s the oath they swore. Many of them talk day and night about the dangers of FISA and how it must be reined in. But as they do every time when it really counts, they sided with the surveillance state to violate our rights.

Representative @RepRosendale introduced an amendment to the NDAA today that would bar the US military from detaining American citizens under the 2001 AUMF.

The 2012 NDAA signed by Obama allowed the president to use the military to detain Americans without charge. Rosendale’s amendment is crucial.

@RonPaul, who voted against every NDAA regardless of party, said this in 2012:

“The now-infamous NDAA for fiscal year 2012, passed last year, granted the president the authority to indefinitely detain American citizens without charge, without access to an attorney, and without trial.

It is difficult to imagine anything more un-American than this attack on our Constitutional protections. While we may not have yet seen the widespread use of this unspeakably evil measure, a wider application of this ‘authority’ may only be a matter of time.

Historically these kinds of measures have been used to bolster state power at the expense of unpopular scapegoats. The Jewish citizens of 1930s Germany knew all about this reprehensible practice. Lately the scapegoats have been mostly Muslims. Hundreds, perhaps many more, even Americans, have been held by the US at Guantanamo and in other secret prisons around the world.

But this can all change quickly, which makes it all the more dangerous. Maybe one day it will be Christians, gun-owners, home-schoolers, etc.

That is why last year, along with Reps. @justinamash, Walter Jones, and others, we attempted to simply remove the language from the NDAA that gave the president this unconstitutional authority.”
