🇲🇱 :- Tuareg rebels free more Malian soldiers

The ongoing prisoner exchanges in northern Mali reflect a rare, tactical diplomatic channel operating amid heavy fighting between the Malian military junta and northern armed groups.

​Key Developments:-

​The Initial Mass Release: On August 13, the Malian military confirmed that 82 soldiers captured during major coordinated attacks in April had been freed.

​Follow-up Swaps: Additional releases took place shortly after. On August 16, six wounded soldiers were freed. By August 23, another batch of over 20 Malian soldiers was released by the Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).

​Quid Pro Quo Terms: While Bamako has presented some of the releases as strategic operations, the FLA spokesperson noted that the transactions were prisoner swaps. In exchange for the government troops, the rebels secured the release of several detained fighters and civilians held in Bamako prisons some of whom had been detained for years.

​Foreign Paramilitary Involvements: Beyond local troops, two former fighters from the Russian paramilitary group Wagner (now rebranded as Africa Corps) were also released after being held captive since 2024 battle engagements in northern Mali.

🇳🇬 :- Tinubu pushes increased NLNG capacity and domestic gas use

President Bola Tinubu has formally directed the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited to eliminate gas flaring and prioritize domestic utilization to convert potential environmental liabilities into economic assets for Nigerians.

​Domestic Energy Prioritization: The President urged NLNG to look beyond revenue generation from international exports and focus on domestic energy requirements, requesting fairer pricing mechanisms so ordinary citizens directly benefit from Nigeria's gas wealth.

​Capacity Expansion Incentives: Tinubu commended the board for expanding operational capacity and pledged government incentives to stimulate further growth and expand processing infrastructure.

​Elimination of Gas Flaring: The initiative stresses capturing routinely flared natural gas to drive domestic industry and expand power generation, turning wasted environmental hazards into economic value.
​Current NLNG Operational Progress

​Operating Capacity: Following recent improvements in security and crude oil production, NLNG has increased its operating capacity from four trains (60%) up to five of its six production trains.

​Train 7 Project: NLNG is preparing to inaugurate Train 7, which will boost total production capacity by 35% and increase domestic cooking gas (LPG) supply capacity by 50%.
