Yesterday, Andrew Mitchell informed Parliament of how the Government intends to spend its foreign aid budget for the next two years. It made for extraordinarily grim reading.

This year, the UK expects to spend 5 times more aid in the UK than in all of Africa.

I realise there is a risk that framing this as 'Africa vs. refugees' presents a false dichotomy and plays into a deliberate strategy that presents hosting refugees as an expensive business that should be discouraged. This would be a mistake. (6/5)
