Wife loses claim to husband’s R2.3 million pension after affair and child outside marriage
A Gauteng High Court has ruled that a woman must forfeit her claim to her estranged husband’s R2.3 million pension fund after finding that her conduct during the marriage constituted substantial misconduct.
The ruling, delivered by Judge Noluntu Bam at the North Gauteng High Court, stems from divorce proceedings in which the husband successfully argued that his wife’s extramarital affair with his friend and the subsequent birth of a child with another man justified excluding her from sharing in his pension benefits.
Married in community of property in 2011, the couple had lived apart since 2020 and agreed their marriage had irretrievably broken down. They also agreed to divide their joint estate equally except for the pension, which the husband sought to protect, citing his wife’s conduct.
During the trial, the court heard that the wife had been unemployed throughout the marriage and engaged in a romantic relationship with one of her husband’s friends while they were still living together.
The husband testified he later discovered via a Facebook baby‑shower post that she had given birth to a third child with another man, a revelation the judge described as humiliating for him.
Judge Bam accepted the husband’s account and found that allowing the wife to benefit from the pension would amount to an undue advantage, particularly given her new relationship and independence from the marriage.
In reaching her decision, the judge noted that the wife’s conduct including procreating with a third party and publicising it amounted to substantial misconduct under Section 9 of the Divorce Act, which permits forfeiture orders when one party would be unduly benefited without them.
The court granted the divorce, ordered an equal division of the joint estate excluding the pension benefits, and made provisions for care and maintenance of the minor children. Each party was ordered to pay their own legal costs.
[FARMER’S WIFE CHARGED WITH PLOTTING TO KILL HER HUSBAND]
The Aliwal North Magistrates’ Court postponed the case against Anelle de Bruin (46), the wife of a prominent local farmer, accused of plotting to kill him in a staged “farm attack”. The accused is charged with conspiracy to murder after she was arrested on 09 January 2025.
She made a brief appearance today, and the prosecution applied for postponement for further investigations as there are still some outstanding statements, photo albums and cell phone records. The matter will be back in court on 23 April 2025, with the accused still out on R2000 bail, with special conditions that she does not return to the farm and have supervised visits of their children.
She was arrested after police received a tip-off from a middleman that she had allegedly approached to find hitmen to kill her 56-year-old husband. According to police investigations, the accused had already paid the middleman a down payment and promised to pay the remainder after the killing was executed and insurance payouts made. She was allegedly recorded instructing that after shooting her husband at their farm, the hitmen must shoot the family’s dogs and vehicle tyres to make it look like a “farm attack”. She had allegedly also informed the middleman of how long would neighbouring farmers take to respond to the attack. It is alleged that she stood to inherit more than R50 million in the event of her husband’s death.

In the high-stakes world of fundraising, there’s this unwritten rule that you’ve got to suit up to impress. It’s like this unspoken code: three-piece suit equals serious business. But let’s step back for a moment and think about what really matters when you’re sitting across the table from an investor, asking for a big amount of money.
Sure, appearances count for something, but when you’re talking about millions, comfort matters just as much. If your idea is genuinely groundbreaking, if it’s got that spark of innovation that investors crave, they’re going to sit up and take notice regardless of what you’re wearing. They’re not investing in your wardrobe; they’re investing in your vision, your drive, your ability to make things happen.
From midnight, NAS100 entered a consolidation phase, moving sideways within a range, as shown in the rectangle. This period was marked by low volatility, with buyers and sellers in balance, causing price oscillation. The market was indecisive with no clear direction established
After reaching a higher level, the price retraced back to the liquidity line, providing an optimal entry point for buyers. This retracement created a favorable opportunity to buy before the market entered its trend phase for the day, marking a significant bullish movement.
XAUUSD began the day already in a consolidation phase with price action moving sideways. After this period, the market broke out to the downside, indicating initial bearish momentum. However this was quickly followed by a breakout to the upside, signaling renewed buying interest
After 15:30, NAS100 entered a strong downtrend, an ideal moment to enter a sell trade. The sharp drop with lower lows and highs confirmed the sell. The trade setup had strong confluence with the RSI being oversold on the M5 timeframe, further supporting the sell entry.
After consolidation, NAS100 broke out into two expansion legs. The first was a downwards movement followed by upwards movement driven by buyers followed by a steeper sell-off. This sell-off indicated that sellers overpowered buyers, leading to a rapid decline in price.
