The West and its partners lecture everyone else while jailing their own citizens or residents for smallest things. Look at the facts. In Turkey, insulting President Erdogan is a straight up crime under Article 299 of the Penal Code, with prison sentences of one to four years that can increase if done publicly. Thousands have been prosecuted, including journalists, students, and ordinary citizens for social media posts or jokes.

Saudi Arabia is even worse: criticize the royals, the government, or Islam and you face decades behind bars, lashes, or worse for disseminating false information or undermining the regime. In the UK, police made over 12,000 arrests in a single year for offensive social media posts, the highest on Earth, while pro-Palestine voices get dragged away for chants or signs under the Online Safety Act and Public Order laws that treat tweets like terror threats. Your England’s free speech is now a sick joke.

Germany arrests people for just wearing a Palestine flag T shirt or displaying a map in Palestinian colors, labeling it support for terrorism or antisemitism. France detains French citizens and activists over Gaza protests, criticism of Israel, or tweets, with blanket protest bans and charges flying against anyone stepping out of line on Israel.

They just arrested Rima Hassan, a Member of the European Parliament, for a pro Gaza Facebook post from 2024! Did you even talk about that? Or about a proposed French bill, called the "Yadan law," where now you can go to jail for 5 years and face massive fines for anti Israel speech or simple statements like “from the river to the sea”?

The USA, land of the free, has over 30 states with anti BDS laws that make it illegal for contractors or public entities to refuse business with Israel. Boycott the wrong country and you lose your livelihood. And do not forget your beloved Israel and their allies in the Gulf: in Dubai, UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, you go to jail just for filming the missile and drone attacks from Iran. Authorities have arrested hundreds, including tourists facing years in prison and massive fines under cybercrime laws for sharing videos that might alarm the public or harm the state’s image.

Piers, so keep lecturing the world while your selective blindness proves the whole system & media is rigged. Hypocrisy this blatant does not just make you look foolish. There is no credible evidence that Iranian authorities “killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed, protestors” in the riots and protests two months ago.

HRANA, a widely cited Iran rights monitor, reported on January 27 that protests had led to 42,324 arrests, not 42,000 killings.

The group, which is funded in part by the U.S. government, published on February 23 a ~1,350-page report, it’s most comprehensive account, which documented 7,007 deaths overall — broken down as 6,488 adult protesters, 236 minors, 207 security force members, and 76 non-participants. Iranian authorities have noted 3,117 deaths because of the actions of armed rioters who infiltrated the protests, and about 3,000 arrests.
