Dopamine drives motivation and the pursuit of rewards
We don't just get "hits" of dopamine when we experience pleasure.
Dopamine is a currency that converts desire into physical and cognitive effort to achieve a particular goal. It’s more closely tied to the pursuit of rewards and the desire to achieve goals than the experience of pleasure itself.
Critically, it’s released en route to goals and rewards when we believe that we are on the right path to those goals.
