HE ESCAPED HIS PAST—BUT THEY FOUND HIM AT UNIBEN
It was supposed to be a fresh start.
A clean slate.
A chance for Desmond to leave his troubled past behind and finally build the future he wanted.
When he arrived at the University of Benin, he was a final-year Public Administration student who appeared calm, reserved, and focused on one thing—finishing his degree.
To those around him, Desmond seemed completely disconnected from the violent world he had once known.
But there was something about his past that very few people knew.
Years earlier, between 2011 and 2012, Desmond had lived a very different life at Delta State University, Abraka.
He was allegedly a high-ranking member of the Mafite confraternity, reportedly serving as its second-in-command.
And that position placed him directly in the middle of a violent conflict with a rival group known as the Aye Fraternity.
As the confrontation intensified, Desmond allegedly became a major target.
Realizing that his life could be in danger, he made a drastic decision.
He left Abraka.
He relocated to Benin City.
And, according to the account, he decided to completely abandon that old life.
He kept a low profile, distanced himself from his former associates, and tried to build a new identity far away from the violence of his past.
For years, it appeared to work.
Until one decision brought him back into the spotlight.
As graduation drew closer, Desmond assumed a leadership position within Kegite’s Club, popularly known as the Palm Wine Drinkers Club.
It was a social organization, but the position made him more visible around campus.
And somehow, people from his past allegedly recognized him.
The man they believed had disappeared from their world was still alive—and now he was in Benin.
Then came April 3, 2023.
That afternoon, according to reports, armed men allegedly arrived at the University of Benin campus from the direction of Abraka.
They reportedly made their way to Hall 3, found Desmond inside his room, and opened fire.
He was killed instantly.
The student who had tried to escape his former life had been found again.
His death sent shockwaves across the university and left behind a disturbing question:
Can someone truly escape a dangerous past—or can the past follow them wherever they go?
Desmond had changed his environment.
He had changed his identity.
He had tried to change his life.
But on that tragic afternoon, the past he had spent years running from allegedly caught up with him.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested Lorretta Anoh in connection with the murder of her boyfriend, 36-year-old Chikoka Emeka Henry, at his residence in Osongama Estate, Uyo.
Investigators said Anoh was last seen entering the apartment on Tuesday. A search conducted after her arrest led to the recovery of ₦2,943,250 in cash, which she admitted stealing from the deceased.
Before her arrest, she had also begun steps to transfer ownership of the victim’s black Mercedes-Benz 4Matic (registration number EKY 694 GP) into her name. The vehicle was taken from the car park at the residence. Preliminary findings revealed that the late Henry sustained a deep cut to the head.
Commissioner of Police Amengheme Andrew has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Ikot Akpan Abia for thorough investigation. He urged members of the public to be careful about the company they keep.
According to a translator, this person is saying:
He should be given AK47

On Sunday when they are worshiping and clapping
He would then open fire
Rudu dududup (sound of gun)
So that he can klll the infideels
He asked to be given AK47 again
