St. Louis has been a cornerstone market since before the organized professional game. Baseball occupies multiple strands of the St. Louis DNA...it's in the water...it's more important than where we went to HS. This moment will live forever in The Lou.

The St. Louis Chapter of @SABR is a very approachable baseball group. The chapter is a pleasant mix of award-winning authors to fans who enjoy contributing to the conversation. You should strongly consider joining...even if it's just to gain access to amazing articles like this.
50 years ago, the Supreme Court upheld @MLB's antitrust exemption in Curt Flood and @MLBPA's landmark case in 1972. Listen to Flood's story in his own words in our new #SABRCentury project: https://t.co/AqGsysPvgC @SCHSociety@livesliterary
Finally, Jack Tobin had over 200 hits a season from 1920-'23. He was a speedy lead-off hitter who came to the Browns with the owner, Phillip Ball, from the Federal League St. Louis Terriers. 5/5
What would you say if we told you the most accomplished St. Louis outfield is one you probably had never heard of? The American League St. Louis Browns of the early 1920βs may have had one of the best outfield trio's in the history of the game! 1/5
Jacobson averaged 98 RBIβs over that same 5-year period. His best season was in 1920 when he batted .355, with 122 RBIβs He was a prototypical gap hitter who piled up doubles and triples. Jacobson had a tremendous arm while playing stellar OF defense. 4/5
Who knows? Perhaps the Browns would have also evolved into race relations community leaders while helping St. Louis to remain in contact with our significant history with the Negro Leagues and the Tandy League. #WhatCouldHaveBeen 2/2
What it the Browns prepared for integration as the Branch Rickey-led Dodgers? Willard Brown and Hank Thompson could have changed the club's fortunes. 1/2 https://t.co/FWmT84XmIp
On June 29, 1876, the St. Louis Brown Stockings of the National Association turned the first triple play in major league play...Backup shortstop Dickey Pearce is credited with starting the play.
Sidenote: Pearce is later credited with inventing the bunt.
When 11-year-old Ellee got the chance to meet her idol, @Orioles baseball announcer @MelanieLynneN, she got to show her just how much of an impact she had on young girls who look up to her. @SteveHartmanCBS has more of this story on inspiration and appreciation.
There are several layers to this story; some of which are outlined within. But it's fair to say that America's Pasttime was propped as a national institution & exempted from interruption of the social & commercial status quo.
Today is the anniversary of a most curious (& convenient) Supreme Court interpretation of the Sherman Act; a ruling that federal antitrust laws don't apply to baseball because βthe business is giving exhibitions of base ballβ is not interstate commerce."
