Qaddara Allahu wa mā shā’a fa‘ala
(Allah amekadiria, na alichotaka amekifanya.)
Kwani neno ‘laiti’ hufungua mlango wa Shetani.”

📚 AḤKĀM AHL ADH-DHIMMAH — IBN AL-QAYYIM (751H)
أحكام أهل الذمة – ابن قيم الجوزية
“The Legal Rulings Concerning Non-Muslim Subjects under Islamic Governance”
📖 A major work in Islamic law and governance, authored by Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751H), addressing in detail the rulings related to non-Muslim communities living under Muslim rule, particularly Jews and Christians.
🧭 The book discusses a wide range of issues concerning relations between Muslims and non-Muslims, including:
•festivals and religious practices,
•marriage,
•commercial dealings,
•inheritance,
•and social interaction.
📚 Comprising 279 chapters, it begins with the subject of jizyah (taxation) and concludes with rulings concerning insulting the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions. It is considered one of the largest and most authoritative works in this field.
✨ The book was originally written in response to detailed questions about:
•the wisdom and basis of jizyah,
•its amount and categories (wealthy, middle, poor),
•how these categories are determined,
•and whether rulers may adjust it according to circumstances.
📖 The work is organized around eight major themes:
1.The relationship of the Islamic state with non-Muslim subjects: administration of their affairs, implementation of legal rulings, and limits regarding positions of authority.
2.Their relationship with Muslim lands: what they are permitted or forbidden to enter, and rulings related to property, places of worship, and residence.
3.Actions that nullify their covenant with the Muslim community.
4.Dealings of Muslims with them: trade, transactions, marriage, and other interactions.
5.Their interaction with Muslims: including hospitality, and distinctions in dress and public conduct.
6.Relations among non-Muslim communities themselves.
7.Their ultimate fate and that of their children in the Hereafter.
8.Rulings concerning groups of uncertain status, whether they fall under this category or not, such as certain sects and related groups.
🌿 A comprehensive and detailed reference combining legal analysis, policy considerations, and theological discussion, reflecting the depth of classical Islamic scholarship on inter-communal relations.
