Two Icelandair 757 pilots have been temporarily stripped of their licenses, one for one year and the other for two, after flying their passenger flight below a safe altitude over the Westman Islands on April 11.

The Captain of the plane, who was flying his last flight with Icelandair when the incident took place, was stripped of his license for 24 months.

The First Officer was deprived of his license for 12 months. The pilot was on leave while the investigation of the case was ongoing.

The pilots have the option of appealing the decision of the Icelandic Transport Authority to the Ministry of Infrastructure. It is not clear whether this was done. The Icelandic Transport Authority's decision regarding the air operator has not yet been made.

Icelandair's internal investigation into the low flight has also been completed. This was confirmed by Guðni Sigurðsson, Icelandair's communications officer. "The results of internal investigations are confidential, but their goal is always to increase safety, and the report includes recommendations to that effect," the response states.
