The Catholics at DW (Knowles and Walsh) never advocate free speech absolutism. That's libertarianism which is actually just the root of liberalism, which goes against Catholicism. The Catholic Church absolutely condemns the idea that every person has a right to say or publish whatever they want.
@SnipeTheState@EricSpracklen Supply and demand.
Sooner or later those people who can't find a buyer are going to have to lower the price.
If your house is "worth 700k" but nobody will buy it, then it's not worth 700k, by definition.
Exactly. And if property taxes are going to exist, the bare minimum reform should be to eliminate tax liens on the home. Your home should not be foreclosable for failure to pay property tax. That's absolutely insane that this is a thing. I would rather my wages be garnished instead. Of course that's unjust as well, but it would be a lesser evil.
@devilfruitbat Garlic cloves and whole onions are sold in every Walmart store. And they are big sellers too.
Just wait until Europeans discover they even sell shallots in every Walmart.
It is a sacrifice first and foremost, being offered by the priest to God. It being a commemoration of the last supper is only a minor point. The point of the last supper was to institute the Mass. A communal meal in memory of the last supper is not the point of it, at all.
This would be like saying the point of running a medical clinic is so the doctor can commemerate his time in medical school.
@IwearCrocsAlot@Lgoody61@WaldosMomkf@pinkheretic Pregnancy is literally mutual, lol. It's been shown the fetus gives stem cells to the mother and all kinds of benefits like a stronger immune system.
Still not seeing where the human rights part plays into it. A totally dependent fetus still has a brain, can feel pain, recognize voices, etc. Seems like a human person to me, and yet you say their umbilical connection and the fact they're inside their mother, negates all of that.
Imagine I find someone on a feeding tube, and I super glue myself to him. Poof, he has no human rights anymore according to your reasoning. I can now euthanize him without his consent since he is totally physically dependent and connected to someone else's body.
Or as a compromise, property tax should be tied to how many excess bedrooms the home has. Number of bedrooms minus number of individuals living in the house equals your property tax multiplier. De-incentivize living beyond your needs.
Family of 4 lives in a 4-bedroom house? No property tax.
Family of 3 lives in a 5-bedroom house? That's an excess of 2, so they pay some tax.
Boomer couple with no dependents lives in an 8-bedroom house? That's an excess of 6, so they should pay triple whatever tax rate the previous family does. Don't like it? Then have family come move in with you, or downsize.
@OR_Engr@SidneysGoat I would propose mainly sales tax.
But also maybe a property tax that applies only to people who have lived in the state for one year or less. People need to be de-incentivized from state-hopping, fleeing California for Tennessee, only to gradually turn Tennessee into California.
Yes. Assets are wealth. They change value, up and down. If unrealized gains are taxed, do we get a corresponding tax refund for unrealized LOSSES if our assets suddenly plummet in value? If not, then your tax is meaningless and just a shameless money grab based on no economic reality.
