If you listen to some IWTVLTW discourse, nothing good that happened in the show was intentional. Every great choice was apparently an accident, every successful adaptation was a misunderstanding, and the showrunner and writers are just idiots who somehow keep stumbling into brilliance without understanding the books.

Three critically acclaimed seasons? What an extraordinary run of accidents.

Obviously the fandom understands the books better and would have done a much better job adapting them. And naturally, we can’t trust the same creative team with the remaining books because… vibes. Their track record is apparently irrelevant when someone on Twitter has decided they “don’t get it.”

I genuinely don’t understand why some of you wake up every morning, voluntarily engaging with the fandom of a show you believe is made by incompetent people who don’t understand its source material, and then spend the rest of the day explaining how badly they’re adapting it.

There are two factions in this fandom who seem completely unwilling to move forward with the plot and accept that Louis, and the show, moved on from the drop.

The first are the people who spent S3 insisting the writers “butchered” Lestat because they can’t stand that he’s no longer being reduced to an abuser. They loved the drop because that is the version of Lestat and the Louis/Lestat dynamic they actually want: Louis as the helpless damsel and Lestat as the big bad abuser.

The second group is furious that the show portrays Armand as the ultimate antagonist in Louis’s story when they were convinced he would be the better choice.

But the canon is pretty clear.
Yes the drop was terrifying and Louis suffered a lot from it. It still wasn’t intended to kill Louis, while the lynching had one goal: kill Louis and Claudia. Claudia died. Lestat saved Louis.

And whatever you think about Lestat’s anger toward Louis in TVL, S3 made Armand’s abuse explicit: he used Claudia’s lookalike to psychologically destabilize Louis, had him captured, chopped off his head, tortured him, and demanded an apology for not loving him and for “wasting” his time.

Those are the things the show actually put on screen.

But in their endless war against the plot, they keep refusing to accept what the narrative is telling them.

At this point, we’re wasting our time arguing with people who are determined to fight the story instead of following it.
