Inspired by @mrfitzhist, created this Periodic Table of #Edexcel GCSE History - Elizabethan England, Medicine through Time, Weimar and Nazi Germany and the Cold War. Names, thumbnails and 'chemical symbol' for factual recall.
‘Think and Link’ grids are proving to be a perfect recall format across all key stages. Great to do as a whole class for ‘fingertip’ recall or as an independent task from which students feed back and their links are further questioned/debated by students/teacher. #historyteacher
Nearly there with Superpower relations and it’s been a slog! However, despite the time pressures, this homework booklet has worked well allowing students to engage with exam skill/attempt each of the 3 questions. I hope it can be of use. #historyteacher

It also showed - through myself being the one degree of separation between them and Professor Navickas - that world renowned experts in their fields are just "normal people" (their words) with passion, dedication and an unbelievable work ethic. An irreplaceable teaching moment 🎉
Enriching our curriculum and transitioning to a three year KS3 has given us new lines of enquiry to explore. Our lesson on Peterloo had a guest star in the shape of @katrinanavickas via a great video hosted by BBC Teach.
As we plan collaboratively and there's a lot going on behind the scenes with curriculum, this came as a surprise. We embed a lot of incredible historiography, but to have the opportunity to talk about a historian that I had the honour of working with on my MA thesis was powerful.
I wrote essays at degree level on the American Revolutionary War and the geopolitical breakdown of the Grand Alliance so I'd favour those. Add Ireland post 1916, the American Civil War, and Elizabethan domestic and foreign policy into the mix and I think I'm on to a winner.
Traute Lafrenz, the last surviving member of the Weiße Rose resistance group, has died aged 103.
She was imprisoned after resisting the Nazi regime with Sophie and Hans Scholl.
Freed by US soldiers in 1945, she moved there and was able to tell of her experiences.
Rest in peace.
Why do we use the term "enslaved people" instead of "slaves"? Slavery was a legal status, not an identity. Our goal is to use language that respects the dignity of all. The term “enslaved people” emphasizes their humanity rather than a status imposed by others.
Of all these hints and tips for new PGCE, SCITT, ECT practitioners doing the rounds most seem to forget about the individual?
Look after yourself. The best teacher is hydrated, energised and healthy. Reserve a drawer in your desk for snacks, paracetamol, ibuprofen and Strepsils.
Pleasure to lead Y7 - Y9 to the home of English rugby, despite being bested on a scrum machine by teenagers. I reminded them that I was far too good looking to play in the front row in my youth. John at @Twickenhamstad gives a great tour, a knowledgeable rugby man and a gent 🏉🏟️
Belatedly made my unsaved education pledge with @SrebrenicaUK, as I'd already actually completed it. 2,500 students in our Multi Academy Trust potentially engaged in a standalone lesson. Srebrenica and Bosnia embedded in our curriculum full time as of 2022/23! 🇧🇦
Today is #HolocaustMemorialDay - the international day to remember all those murdered during the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution of other groups, and in genocides that followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
Let's learn from the past for a better future. #HMD2022
.@DavidDavisMP : Conservative MP David Davis publicly calls for Boris Johnson's resignation, quoting: "You have sat there too long for all the good you have done. In the name of god, go!"
