@ShakinthatChalk@missdcox He's numerate on a very well rehearsed niche skill. Not sure that doing your 2 and 3 times tables quickly makes you numerate because I would hope that many can do this by year 3 / 4. Does the speed of a calculation make you more or less numerate?
@ShakinthatChalk@missdcox How did this show that GCSE Maths has a narrow domain? Quite the opposite - the lad is doing his 2 and 3 times tables and a couple of adds and subtracts. All in the ks2 curriculum! (admittedly very quickly)
@giftedHKO We were expecting delivery of a toy for my little one for Xmas delivered by Evri. Rather than knock on the door the courier threw it over our garden gate and didn't even leave a message to say he had done that. It rained all day and found it soaking wet whilst putting bins out.
@JRappaport27@MrZachG Jordan would obviously like the following in his school:
1) pupils messaging everyone and not doing work
2) allow pupils on the corridors rather than Classrooms
3) have lower expectations of some students
4) have no consequences
5) allow pupils to talk about last night's tv.
@marcmaths@mrbartonmaths It might not be later that lesson but later on the lesson sequence. If you then go on to a problem solving idea you can go back to it and say "could you apply this method to this situation?"
@marcmaths@mrbartonmaths I agree with not writing out the lesson objectives and irrelevant stuff but I'm having a hard time letting go of not copying down the example. Even though the majority of Y11 books are at the back of my classroom. I think the pupils would miss not having the examples to refer to.
📢 Ok, get this...at @SparxMaths we've created the most AWESOME GCSE Crossover Workbooks (1 per strand) to support revision for those Qs that appear on both Foundation and Higher tiers. All you've got to do is like and retweet this and I'll send you your FREE copy next week 📢
@mclain_brenda@smoking_truth@mraspinall No no no. Whilst the kids are at school we are the adults. Some parents don't know how to parent. We need to show them what is and isn't acceptable! Tips to get to school on time? The majority of them have phones! Set an alarm!
@Scott_Math83 Been there! 1) It will be a steep learning curve but have an idea of what you want your department to be like and introduce things slowly. 2) Get in to as many classrooms as possible and make sure the pupils know who you are. 3) Everyone likes cake.
OK, so the Y6/7 transition packs were soooooo popular, that I was thinking of asking the unbelievable content design team @SparxMaths to create a booklet/course to support for y11/12 transition (i.e. getting ready for AS). If a good idea, RT this to sigal "yes please I want one"
@MrsWalker91 @DHTDurrant@AHTpastoral@SmallSchoolHead Maybe they would get on with the learning quicker if they remembered a pen.... But anyway each to their own.
