I’ve been saying it for years, and I’ll keep saying it: AI is a tool, not a substitute.
Ford just proved it the hard way.
The automaker leaned hard into AI for quality control, let veteran engineers go, and assumed the technology could carry the load. It couldn’t. So over the past three years, Ford rehired 350 experienced engineers — the “gray beards” — to fix what the AI got wrong.
And here’s the part the headline misses: the AI wasn’t broken. The problem was that the people who could have trained it properly had already walked out the door. As Ford’s VP of engineering put it: “Artificial intelligence is a fantastic tool, but it’s only as good as the information you use to train it.”
Read that line twice. It’s the whole story.
AI doesn’t replace expertise. It amplifies it — for better or worse. Feed it deep human judgment and it gets sharper. Strip the humans out and it just confidently amplifies your weak spots.
I’m a creative. I use AI every single day.
It makes me faster, sharper, and able to do more than I could alone. But it has never once replaced the judgment, the taste, or the experience that makes the work actually good.
The companies winning with AI aren’t the ones who use it to get rid of their best people. They’re the ones who use it to make their best people more powerful.
Tool. Not substitute. Ford just paid hundreds of millions to relearn the difference.

The HHS team is united behind one mission: end the chronic disease epidemic and restore the health of the American people.
Eat Real Food. Get Active. Together, we will Make America Healthy Again.
The most important meeting on my calendar each week happens on the mats. 🥊
48 years old, and still on the pads.
People ask why I still train Muay Thai with everything else on my plate.
This is why.
There’s no faking it in here. The pads don’t care about your title, your revenue, or how busy your week was. You show up, you put in the work, or you don’t. That’s it.
Every round teaches the same lesson the business needs: focus on the next strike, not the whole fight. Stay calm when it gets hard. Keep your hands up and keep moving forward.
The discipline that holds up under a combination is the same discipline that holds up under pressure at the office. Train one and you sharpen the other.
Good health isn’t separate from the work. It’s the foundation the work stands on.

@danawhite just explained the future of advertising better than any analyst alive.
Cable is dying. Streaming is rebundling into a handful of global channels. And every one runs ads.
Channel 3, 5, 8, 13. But globally.
