There's actually something Nietzschean about this (cf. his Untimely Meditation on "The Uses of History"). The past can be a paralysing burden for man in the present, and sometimes the only way to escape it may be to destroy it. The Chinese example, however, shows that these periodic conflagrations didn't inspire new greatness, only a hardening of the scleroticism that gripped each successive dynasty.

I sometimes think the West must forget large parts of its history if it is to be great again, so that Western man can cease trying to emulate or even recreate the glories of the past--which are obviously gone and aren't coming back--and create something spectacular and new instead.

This is why, for example, I hate the artistic vision of Atelier Missor: not only is it an appalling pastiche of classicism, executed half-heartedly and without real conviction, but it's also a distraction from the real task, which is to create a new living, breathing artistic culture to orient our mighty civilisation in the decades and centuries to come.

@Babygravy9 At my state school in Australia we had to do 2 45 minute swim classes every week for half the year. We got winter off. And you had to enter an event during the school swimming carnival. The only students exempt were the few Indians we had.

If you're here because you genuinely add value, or married in, or because of some solid connection say Hong Kong or Gurkhas or something. In sensible numbers I have no issue with that.

And yes, yes - that makes me a squishy liberal. But I do believe that deporting as few as 10-15 million people is enough. The last 5 odd million don't bother me much. And once we get out the people who hate us and add no value at all this issue will fade away.
