@Miss_Snuffy Somebody I used to work with, excellent teacher, got asked by a parent if he could "engage" their child more and make lessons more "fun". He said he was a teacher, not an entertainer. I keep this in mind a lot!
This has made 2025 so much better. I like mathematical sum dates, e.g. 2.12.24 because 2 x 12 =24 and students notice them now too. I was disappointed 2025 wouldn't have many but the whole year is mathematical! Martin Lewis saving the day again
Right. This is upsetting me. This cookie pie has a serving size recommendation of splitting it into 7ths, BUT you can't split a circle into even sevenths. WHY would they do this? Why not 8ths? #maths
@PepsMccrea Create consistent learning routines. E.g. Model an example, have them try it on whiteboards, cold call, praise, get them to independently practice, praise. Do it every single day and this creates good relationships: students trust your predictability
@PepsMccrea Loved this video. Very concise review of information giving important aspects to reflect on. I enjoyed then reading the research myself, would be great if you had links to the research papers in the description or in the video for ease of access.
Remember this in September #TeachersOfTwitter!
Also, the reason might be choice. That's fine, they are still children and allowed to make mistakes. We reset next time we see them.
@mathscpdchat I teach the first lesson and talk through my expectations and why. E.g. I'll explain why I want to see all whiteboards after a countdown and for students to keep them held up, also why I want to see everyone's and what I'll do if you don't understand. Done through normal routine

This 13 minute video has just kept me occupied for a couple of hours. Very interesting research to have a read of and reflect on! #teaching
@91larachops@RogersHistory@jonnyjohnno That's ridiculous. The head will have known for a long time the results were "down" from grade predictions! Such a childish response as well.
Might be a blessing if they give you the silent treatment ๐คฃ
@tombennett71 I need to do so much more reading on this school, the facts and figures are amazing. A lot of people questioning "what about..." but the figures are amazing in a comprehensive
Lots of time spent planning lessons, carefully selecting topics, resources, practice tasks, looking through data and making predictions. All down to one #ResultsDay2024.
The most important part?
"Are you happy with your results?"
"Yes I got a ... in Maths!"
"Well done!"
Spoke to a primary teacher yesterday who taught year 6 and is teaching year 4 next year. Said they are fed up of the sats pressure all year. I know teachers who feel the same about year 11. Strange stress part of the profession. Need to consider how we empower staff! #teaching
