Evacuation of SA nationals from #Sudan...update. We can now confirm that all SA nationals we know of are out of Sudan. Evacuations like this are not easy & face multiple difficulties & frustrations. We appreciate the partnerships & collaboration of Gift of the Givers, countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia & Sudan. A group of our nationals crossed from Port Sudan to Jeddah. Our Consul-General & his team received them (pic with flags) & facilitated on-ground support. Their employer paid for flight tickets. They'll arrive @ortambo_int this afternoon at 16h15. The groups that were evacuated by busses from Khartoum have also crossed the border into Egypt. The government paid for two busses. The @GiftoftheGivers who were not on the ground but coordinated with our officials, paid for an extra bus. The government has booked all into hotels in Egypt. The government will now pay for flight tickets for all. We also assisted several nationals from SADC countries. Details of arrivals for the other groups will be communicated.

Update on the evacuation of SA🇿🇦 nationals from #Sudan. Several in the group that was evacuated didn't have travel documents (8 SA nationals, 7 Angolans, and one Lesotho national ). They were refused entry into Egypt. They're safe but still haven't crossed the border. We are negotiating with the Egyptians & WILL resolve this. They have not been abandoned. Evacuations are never easy or without challenges. The important thing was to get people out of harm's way. Saudi Arabia has also agreed to receive SA nationals who made it to Port Sudan. Arrangements are being made. This is not an easy operation logistically. There are many nationals of other countries all desperately trying to get out. People are hungry & desperate, tired & deprived of sleep, but we must get the job done. The goal remains to ensure that everyone comes home safely.

Latest update re: Evacuation of SA🇿🇦 nationals in #Sudan.
The two busses have safely arrived at the border with Egypt. We have officials from the SA Embassy in Egypt to receive them & facilitate their entry into Egypt. SA government will pay for their flights back to SA. The support of everyone, including @GiftoftheGivers & the government of Egypt, is acknowledged & appreciated. There's 12 more nationals that will leave #Sudan today. With this, everyone we know of will be accounted for.

Latest update re: Evacuation of SA nationals in #Sudan. Our nationals & embassy staff are on their way out of #Khartoum. I can't disclose the security & logistics of the operation. But they are moving out. We are in constant contact with them. 🙏🏾

Latest number of verified SA nationals stuck in #Sudan is 77. They're all in a WhatsApp group with embassy staff (who are also still stuck there). Complaints of inconsistent/little/no communication from the team is noted. However, they've run out of diesel. There's no electricity & therefore poor network coverage. They've since found a way to recharge batteries & will update SA nationals regarding evacuation plans. Our security agencies are far advanced with the evacuation plan. Fighting hasn't stopped, so it remains a dangerous & risky operation. The Airport is closed & all routes are not risk free. Gov is doing everything possible to get our nationals out. Without revealing security plans, there's an option that is being implemented. Updates will be provided.

Everyone (incl diplomats) is advised to stay indoors. Airport is closed. The embassy will only know if you're in a particular country if you let them know. We always make this call. Gov has previously evacuated nationals from similar situations once conditions allow. We're on it
