It's dark now in Normandy. D Day draws to a close. The Allies are ashore, but the beachhead is fragile and will soon come under vicious, sustained attack. Here's a quick run over the numbers on this historic day. Thanks for following my coverage these last few days.
The largest amphibious invasion in human history began in the dark.
At dawn on June 6, 1944, nearly 7,000 vessels carrying 160,000 Allied troops closed in on the beaches of Normandy.
Through courage and sacrifice, they secured a foothold in Nazi-occupied France and began the liberation of Western Europe.
Today, we honor the heroes of D-Day.
The first wave is closing on Omaha Beach. This is why, as a Brit, I tell my American son always to hold his head high. Most of the men in this photo will be killed or wounded in the next couple of hours. My freedom is not free. See more on Substack: https://t.co/EEg00P06y6
Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.
They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.
France also gave us this land as American soil. #MemorialDayWeekend
This Red Sox team is unbearable to watch. I've seen enough. They're going nowhere. Here's the checklist:
- Fire Breslow
- Try to get Theo to run the deadline. If not, Romero.
- Sell at the deadline
- Name a new GM who knows what he's doing
- Let that GM hire the next manager

The next Red Sox promotion should be one lucky fan gets to bat 9th that game. They’ll go 0-3, but so do Durbin, Story and IKF nightly. And the at-bats would atleast be entertaining
