@DrFrancisYoung A sort of compromise is in order here.

1400 is the last year of the 15th century (1301-1400) but the year 1400 is part of the 1400s (which therefore run 1400-1499). And so there is, for example, only 99% overlap between the 1900s and the 20th century.

In a sense, they are correct; for example, detailed satellite imagery can provide lots of information to a modern commander. But the proliferation of IT (and all the noise) has also greatly increased the number of questions, leverage/shatterpoints, and domains to consider—and each one of the has its own fog. Yes we have more sensors now, but the landscape of action is also much broader. The complex system that is War has become even more complex.
