Wole Soyinka settled this debate decades ago. When asked why he wrote in English, the coloniser's language he said the "tiger does not proclaim its tigritude. It pounces."

In other words, the tool does not define the intention. The weapon you use does not determine whose side you are on.

Soyinka wrote in English and still dismantled colonial thinking more effectively than most people who refused to. Ngugi wa Thiong'o wrote in Gikuyu and still used a printing press invented in Europe. The medium was never the message.

A Pan-African supporting European football is not a contradiction. Football was not invented to oppress Africa. The CFA Franc was. French military bases were. Françafrique was. These are deliberate political instruments of control. A football jersey is not.

The question was never what language you speak or what sport you watch? The question is whether you understand who is exploiting your continent, how they are doing it and whether you have the courage to say something about it in whatever language you choose.

Soyinka chose English and still made the coloniser deeply uncomfortable.

You can sing in French, watch European football and still demand African dignity. That is not hypocrisy.
