I’ve seen a lot of people say that you need to play Gears E-day on Modern for controller… you really don’t. I’ve been playing almost exclusively on the older style and, while I’ll admit it isn’t perfect (sliding when I wanna dodge, for example), I’ve been doing okay in PvP.
