Breaking my rule and tweeting while feeling the feels. I had a realization today: my students saved me this year. The world brought almost unrelenting darkness, but they brought grace and goodness. As I say bye to them, I’m feeling totally overwhelmed with gratitude.
One of the biggest surprises of this COVID year? Coming to the building has unquestionably been the best part of my week. I'd have told you in August that in-person school was a terrible idea and I was intensely worried about it.
@CaitlinPacific I just read your indictment of private schools in America and found it riveting. I'm an alum of a private school and a teacher at a public school and can confirm that the realities you uncover are essential and infuriating.
@trymainelee I'm a high school social studies teacher and I wanted to let you know that your @nytimes article on the racial wealth gap has played a huge role in my unit on systemic racism. It has been one of the great joys of my year to hear my students unpack your work.
Getting to see my advisees this morning - albeit through a Google Hangout Meet - was an easy highlight of the past nine days. I could feel the relief that community brings from all of them. I could hear it in their voices and see it on their faces.
Teachers and parents, as you begin to radically shift what education looks like in your life and your students' lives, may you have the confidence, patience, grit, and sly humor of my man #chrismorocco Example A (and a great watch!) https://t.co/38AXRoRn43
There’s a perception out there that 9th graders aren’t ready for student-lead, clear-eyed discussions about tough topics like racism and sexism. Yet again, #snelling students proved that these assertions couldn’t be further from the truth. They were truly courageous today.
CVU is hiring 2 administrators for next year. It’s an amazing high school in an amazing community in an amazing state! We’re proficiency-based & focused on increasing personalization. Apply on schoolspring. #sblchat#edchat @TG2Chat @rickwormeli2@MastTranscript @think_in_policy
What a thrill to have @Kwcadwell and a group from @HarwoodUnion present their work on the #harknesspedagogy to the SEL PLC here at @CVULearns. SEL is so important to a school community, and Harkness is one of the best ways to foster its skills.
Dispatches from wellness day: despite a valiant guest showing from @abuntcvu, the Snelling students trounced the teachers in our PE skills challenge. We’ll be back on it next year!
Dispatches from Snelling Wellness day: in a hard fought, come-from-behind victory, Shelburne has outlasted Williston to emerge victorious in team trivia.
Judging the annual @CVULearns faculty cookie contest is one of the great honors in my professional life. It was a privilege to dig in to the ‘work’ this year with @mpogact.
Implications for classroom discussion are significant. Long and short of it: attempt to empathize and show people you’re curious! Not hard, but we all fall short so often.
Before arguing with friends or family around the Thanksgiving table, take a look at the science behind arguing better. And it'll never hurt to try this: "Listen to people, get them to think about their own experience, and highlight your common humanity." https://t.co/AZC9kpqoqx
